The taxa frequencies and cluster analysis of 10837 conodonts recovered from the Santa Rosita Formation on the eastern flank of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, Cordillera Oriental of Argentina, were carried out for palaeoenvironmental interpretations. The first type of analysis allowed us to identify three conodont biofacies: Variabiloconus-Teridontus, Utahconus-Acanthodus and Tilcarodus-Drepanoistodus, and the cluster analysis helps define respective sub-biofacies. The first biofacies is not constrained to a particular environment, the second biofacies, which is characterized by typical Laurentian genera, is related to sandstones from shallow-water environments, while the third one is better represented in deeper water siliciclastic lithofacies. A nektobenthic mode of life is suggested for Utahconus and Acanthodus, but a pelagic behaviour is apparent for the rest of the taxa, well adapted to off-shore biotopes in particular cases (proto- and paraconodonts). The faunal composition reveals a mixture of Baltic and Laurentian taxa, as well as endemic forms that define the Southwestern Gondwana Province from the Cold Domain in the Shallow-Sea Realm. The presence of typical species from low latitudes (e.g. Australia) confirms the installation of an oceanic perigondwanian corridor, which was open to faunal migration during the late Cambrianearly Ordovician. Early Ordovician conodonts from the Ullum Volcanic Center, Argentine Precordillera: Biostratigraphy, geothermometry and preservation

M. J. Mango, G. G. Voldman, G. L. Albanesi

Summary: The study in the Ullum Volcanic Center of the Argentine Precordillera focuses on the biostratigraphy, geothermometry, and preservation of conodont elements recovered from the San Juan Formation. The biostratigraphic analysis confirms the deposits in the area correspond to the Floian Stage (Lower Ordovician), and reveals strong correlations with other regions such as Baltoscandia, Newfoundland, China, and the North America Midcontinent biostratigraphic schemes. The preservation of the conodont elements is related to the distance from volcanic rocks and the hydrothermal-metasomatic processes in the area.

Systems tracts of the San Juan Formation (Ordovician), Argentine Precordillera: Conodont record analyses, thin sections and its intercontinental importance

M. J. Mango, G. L. Albanesi

Summary: This study uses first and last occurrences of conodont species and petrographic thin sections to identify systems tracts in the San Juan Formation, recognizing two transgressive systems tracts (TST) and two highstand systems tracts (HST). The analysis also includes the location of maximum flooding surfaces corresponding to each depositional sequence.

The Baltoniodus navis Zone in the Gualcamayo Formation (Middle Ordovician), Central Precordillera, Argentina

M. J. Mango, G. L. Albanesi

Summary: We studied the conodont fauna and biostratigraphy of the lower 3 m of the Gualcamayo Formation in Argentina. Through the identification of 828 conodonts, we reassigned the lower part of the formation to the Baltoniodus navis Zone. Our findings also revealed correlations with other regions such as China, Sweden, and North America.

An endemic conodont fauna of Darriwilian (Middle Ordovician) age from the Santa Gertrudis Formation, southwestern Gondwanan margin and its paleobiogeographic relationships

Guillermo L. Albanesi, C. Ruben Monaldi, Christopher R. Barnes, Fernando J. Zeballo, Gladys Ortega

Summary: This study analyzes a large collection of conodonts from the Santa Gertrudis Formation in NW Argentina. Due to the mostly endemic fauna of this unit and the lack of index species, complex taxonomic and biostratigraphic interpretations are required. New species apparatuses were determined using a different taxonomic approach. Although intercontinental correlation is limited, the overlapping ranges of recorded species suggest a middle Darriwilian age for the formation.

Appraisal of middle Floian (Lower Ordovician) conodont diversity of the Precordillera and Cordillera Oriental, Argentina: Paleobiogeographical implications

Kristal Rueda, Guillermo L. Albanesi

Summary: In this study, the diversity of Floian conodonts from the Precordillera and Cordillera Oriental regions in Argentina were compared. The results showed remarkable differences in species richness and diversity between the two regions, which may be attributed to the complex interaction of biological and physico-chemical factors.

The Evae transgression: a major event?

Gisella M. Della Costa, Guillermo L. Albanesi

Summary: The study aims to evaluate the similarity in conodont species composition between different regions during the Early Ordovician Evae transgression. Cluster analysis indicates the presence of two moderately to poorly differentiated faunal groups, suggesting that certain paleogeographic barriers may have remained during the transgression. There seems to be a paleolatitudinal control over species distribution, with a higher number of species dwelling in mid-low latitudes than mid-latitudes. This suggests a potentially smaller magnitude or duration for the Evae transgression.

New contributions to the Ordovician biostratigraphy of the Western Precordillera, Argentina

Fernando E. Lopez, Gladys Ortega, Guillermo L. Albanesi, Aldo L. Banchig

Summary: Upper Ordovician graptolites and conodonts from the Yerba Loca Formation in Argentina provide important regional and global correlations, particularly in poorly known deep marine environments. The fossils collected include late Sandbian Climacograptus bicornis Zone graptolites and Amorphognathus tvaerensis Zone conodonts. The presence of early Sandbian Nemagraptus gracilis Zone graptolites is also reported, expanding the understanding of this geological time period.

Ordovician conodont biofacies of the upper La Silla and San Juan formations (middle Tremadocian-lower Dapingian) at Cerro La Silla, Argentine Precordillera

Matias J. Mango, Guillermo L. Albanesi

Summary: Conodonts from the upper La Silla and San Juan formations at the Cerro La Silla section were analyzed to identify faunal dynamics, biofacies, and sea-level changes. The study revealed seven distinct biofacies and two transgressive events in the San Juan Formation at the Cerro La Silla section.
