Summary: The study demonstrates that the efficiency of chemical desorption can be significantly improved by using different desorption agents and operating under specific conditions. Under optimal conditions, the desorption rate can reach high levels, providing a promising alternative to traditional thermal desorption methods.

Summary: The secular trend of seawater strontium isotope ratio provides important information about changes in ocean composition and global tectonic events. This study compiled and evaluated strontium isotope ratio data of Precambrian marine sedimentary rocks and generated an improved seawater Sr-87/Sr-86 curve. The results indicate an earlier deviation of seawater Sr-87/Sr-86 from the mantle, as well as stronger oscillations and better correspondence with supercontinent cycles than previously shown.

Summary: This study calculated the magnitude and distribution of the global silicate rock weathering carbon sink using high-precision data and predicted future trends. Brazil is the largest contributor to the global silicate rock weathering carbon sink, and future temperature changes will continue to impact carbon sink capacity.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of organic acids on lithium isotope behavior and finds that organic acids have significant effects on dissolved elemental concentrations, but little effect on lithium isotopes. The results have important implications for understanding the role of plants in weathering and the geological record.

Summary: This study focuses on characterizing and quantifying silicate and carbonate weathering rates in a groundwater basin, with higher silicate weathering rates compared to carbonate weathering rates. The results indicate that lithology, climate, and relief are key factors in controlling weathering and carbon dioxide consumption rates.

Summary: The drainage microbasin of the Bule stream plays a significant role in the Quadrilatero Ferrifero, known for its mineral production value. Analysis of surface water chemistry revealed that the main dissolved ions in the basin originate from local lithotypes, with sulfide oxidation being the primary source of sulfate in the river.

Summary: Enhanced weathering of industrial Ca-rich silicate byproducts in croplands has the potential for large-scale atmospheric CO2 removal; however, the effectiveness of such systems is still uncertain due to unrealistic prediction models and inadequate consideration of soil dynamics on fluid chemistry.

Summary: The study suggests that chemical weathering and CO2 consumption in the glaciated area of the Tibetan Plateau exhibit regional differences, with silicate weathering being influenced by temperature and carbonate weathering dominating riverine solute generation. Moreover, the oxidation of pyrite leads to carbonate weathering in the upstream and midstream regions not consuming atmospheric CO2.

Summary: The coupling between chemical weathering and physical erosion in active mountain belts, particularly the impact of landslides and typhoons on this coupling, is of significant interest. Landslides enhance chemical weathering by exposing fresh minerals, while typhoons prompt rapid responses in carbonate and pyrite weathering rates, contributing to increased CO2 emissions.

Summary: This study investigates the lithium and magnesium isotope ratios in soils and drainage waters during a weathering experiment with olivine addition. The results show that the isotopic composition is affected by the dissolution of olivine and exchanges with the exchangeable pool in the soils.

Summary: Plastic pollution is a widespread environmental problem that affects various natural habitats. Recently, there has been a growing interest in studying the degradation of plastics in terrestrial, marine, and freshwater environments, with a focus on the fragmentation of plastics into microplastics. This study investigated the degradation of a specific type of engineering polymer, poly(oxy-methylene), under different weathering conditions, using various characterization techniques. The results revealed that natural climatic conditions, especially solar UV radiation, were the most favorable for the degradation of the polymer, leading to significant fragmentation into microplastics.

Summary: This study measured the chemical composition of runoff from four sub-basins in the Xizhijiang River basin to investigate the impact of lithology and land use on the chemical runoff and estimate CO2 consumed by chemical weathering. Compared to global rivers, the chemical runoff in the Xizhijiang River basin had moderate concentration of total dissolved solids and relatively higher concentration of dissolved silicon. Agricultural and industrial activities increased Cl- concentration in the river water, while trace carbonate weathering released a large amount of Ca2+. The CO2 flux fixed by chemical weathering in the mid-upstream Xizhijiang River basin is significant and can serve as a geological carbon sink if extrapolated to the entire South China region.

Summary: Research on Meso- and Neoproterozoic paleosols from various regions of the East European Craton reveals distinct weathering sequences on different parent materials, indicating a warm and humid climate with oxidative weathering. The profiles show variations in the weathering processes of dioctahedral smectite on different parent materials.

Summary: The study found that semi-arid soils in the Russian plain are characterized by a low intensity of current chemical weathering, which is mainly determined by the geochemical environment of the soil formation rather than the climate.
