Summary: This study explores neurological evidence of compulsions without obsession in a patient following a stroke in the left subcortical regions, highlighting the significant role of compulsions in OCD pathology. Additionally, comprehensive neuropsychological findings revealed specific alterations in executive and emotional domains. MRI analyses further demonstrated a strong decrease in connectivity following the subcortical stroke, indicating large network alterations.

Summary: This study developed and validated the Facing-Contamination Self-Efficacy Scale (FC-SES) for individuals with OCD symptoms related to contamination. The scale demonstrated good internal consistency reliability and validity, making it a valuable tool for future research on the relationship between self-efficacy and contamination-related OCD symptoms.

Summary: With limited research on NSSID in military veterans, a study identified diagnostic predictors of NSSID within a veteran sample. Borderline personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder were found to be unique correlates of NSSID among veterans. The findings highlight the association between psychiatric disorders and lifetime NSSID in veterans, emphasizing obsessive-compulsive disorder as a risk factor.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review on the relationships between childhood trauma and obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCS) severity. The results showed a significant relationship between exposure to childhood trauma and OCS severity in both clinical and non-clinical populations. It was also found that a range of childhood trauma types, rather than a single type, was associated with OCD.

Summary: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a heritable, polygenic disorder with contributions from both common and rare genetic variants. Genetics play an important role in the susceptibility to OCD, with discrete OCD symptom dimensions having both shared and unique genetic risks. Genome-wide studies show that OCD shares genetic risk with its comorbid conditions.

Summary: This study found that childhood maltreatment has both direct and indirect effects on obsessive-compulsive symptoms, with the indirect effect mediated by the behavioral inhibition system. The findings highlight the role of the behavioral inhibition system in linking childhood maltreatment to obsessive-compulsive symptomology.

Summary: Obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCS) commonly occur in patients treated with clozapine and can significantly affect subjective wellbeing. This study found that OCS severity had a negative impact on wellbeing scores, independent of depressive and psychotic symptoms. However, OCS did not impair general functioning. Obsessional thinking and hoarding behavior, rather than compulsions, were specifically associated with decreased wellbeing, possibly due to the nature of the compulsions.

Summary: There is a strong link between obsessive-compulsive disorder or symptoms (OCD/S) and dissociative experiences, which cannot be explained by trauma. This study proposes five different models to conceptualize the relationship between them. These models suggest potential directions for future research and offer insights for clinical intervention in OCD.

Summary: This study found that individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) show an unusual attentional response to direct gaze. Unlike the healthy control group, they did not exhibit significant differences in response time for faces with direct gaze. This suggests that individuals with OCD may have unique cognitive characteristics when processing eye-gaze stimuli.

Summary: Automatically detecting compulsive hand washing using wearable devices is an important step toward developing sensor-based assessments and interventions for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This study demonstrates that enacted compulsive hand washing can be distinguished from routine hand washing based on sensor data analysis, although specificity is low.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the factors associated with a delay in treatment-seeking among patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The results showed that approximately one-third of OCD patients sought treatment within two years of symptom awareness, with a median latency to treatment of 4.0 years. Longer latency to treatment was associated with older age, early onset of OCD symptoms, presence of contamination/cleaning symptoms, and full-time employment. Shorter latency to treatment was associated with the presence of aggression symptoms and comorbidity with hypochondriasis. Strategies for reducing latency to treatment should focus on older patients, those who work full-time, and individuals with early onset of OCD and contamination/cleaning symptoms.

Summary: Individuals with OCD have a higher risk of thinking about, attempting, and dying by suicide compared to the general population. Taboo obsessions, the general OCD factor, lifetime major depression, and lifetime substance use disorders significantly predict suicidality in patients with OCD. Taboo obsessions may explain a small proportion of the variance in suicidality and should be considered an independent risk factor.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the precision of previous research on the prevalence of depressive symptoms among medical students by gathering individual participant data (IPD). The findings showed that the pooled prevalence obtained from IPD meta-analysis was lower compared to previous meta-analyses using aggregated data. Age, sex, and year of study were significantly associated with the depression z-score.
