A novel process for capturing carbon dioxide using aqueous ammonia is developed based on a technical route operated at the normal temperature and the atmospheric pressure. The novel ammonia process includes the standard absorption and desorption flow sheet and a NH3 abatement system. The Equilibrium-stage modeling approach is adopted to simulate the feasibility of CO2 removal by aqueous ammonia solution. Besides, simulation result gives the energy consumption for the NH3 abatement system. Simulation results show that the novel process can be achieved theoretically. Compared with the MEA process and other existed ammonia processes, the calculated equilibrium regeneration energy is small. Considering application of the low-grade thermal energy for the CO2 regenerator, the novel ammonia process is a promising technology. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
