The succession of the mid-Bashkirian ammonoids Cancelloceras and Gastrioceras in North China

Dieter Korn, Qiu-Lai Wang, Ke-Yi Hu, Yu-Ping Qi

Summary: This study revises the important index fossils Cancelloceras and Gastrioceras in the mid-Bashkirian strata of the Qilian Mountain region in China, and describes a new species Homoceratoides wangchengi. Four successive ammonoid assemblages in the Xiaoyuchuan section are identified, with updated species information.

Nd isotope record of ocean closure archived in limestones of the Devonian-Carboniferous carbonate platform, Greater Karatau, southern Kazakhstan

Z. Belka, J. Dopieralska, M. Jakubowicz, S. Skompski, A. Walczak, D. Korn, M. Siepak

Summary: The study found that micritic limestones from the Greater Karatau area can preserve Nd isotope signatures of seawater. The Nd isotope composition of seawater in the Karatau platform indicates the final closure of the Uralian-Turkestan Ocean, and reveals that subduction along Kazakhstan's active margin began at least 23 million years earlier than previously thought.

New and revised small shelly fossil record from the lower Cambrian of northern Iran

Lea Devaere, Dieter Korn, Abbas Ghaderi, Ulrich Struck, Alireza K. Bavandpur

Summary: The study on small shelly fossils in the lower Cambrian of northern Iran provides new data from this understudied area, allowing the distinction of two successive microfaunal assemblages.

A new record of the Permian ammonoid family Cyclolobidae from Julfa (NW Iran)

Nahideh Ghanizadeh Tabrizi, Abbas Ghaderi, Ali Reza Ashouri, Dieter Korn

Summary: The representatives of Cyclolobidae family from the Guadalupian and Lopingian are rare in Transcaucasia and Iran. The new species Timorites dendroides KORN & GHADERI n. sp. is described from the early Wuchiapingian beds in Kuh-e-Ali Bashi, NW Iran, making it the first record of the genus in northern Palaeotethys and the youngest occurrence of the genus stratigraphically.

Revision of Tornoceras typus (SANDBERGER & SANDBERGER, 1851) - an iconic Devonian ammonoid of a clade with slow morphological evolution

Dieter Korn

Summary: This study revises the ammonoid species Tornoceras types, describing their different morphologies in various geological periods. New related species were discovered, enriching the diversity of this group. The research findings indicate that both Tornoceras and Linguatornoceras survived the Kellwasser crisis.

Re-assessment of ammonoid specimens from the Early Carboniferous Protocanites Beds of the Badenweiler-Lenzkirch Zone (Schwarzwald, Central Variscan Belt): age constraints for a lithostratigraphic key bed

Dieter Korn, Michael Montenari

Summary: The Protocanites Beds in the Black Forest Massif are a lithostratigraphic key bed, providing important information for correlating within the central Variscan Belt and understanding the geodynamic evolution of the Moldanubian Zone. Two re-described ammonoid specimens from Schonau have fixed the stratigraphic position of the Protocanites Beds to the early Late Tournaisian.

The Changhsingian (Late Permian) ammonoids from Baghuk Mountain (Central Iran)

Dieter Korn, Vachik Hairapetian, Abbas Ghaderi, Lucyna Leda, Martin Schobben, Amir Akbari

Summary: The Late Permian Hambast Formation in Baghuk Mountain, Central Iran, has revealed diverse ammonoid assemblages, including three new genera and 19 new species. These findings enhance our understanding of the evolutionary history of organisms before the end-Permian mass extinction in the Late Permian period.

The nautiloids from the Early Carboniferous Dalle a Merocanites of Timimoun, western Algeria

Dieter Korn, Luyi Miao, Jurgen Bockwinkel

Summary: This article describes a coiled nautiloid assemblage from the Dalle a Merocanites formation in western Algeria, consisting of nine species from the family Trigonoceratidae. It is the most diverse Carboniferous nautiloid assemblage known from North Africa, but less diverse than the assemblages from Belgium and Ireland.

The Permian-Triassic boundary section at Baghuk Mountain, Central Iran: carbonate microfacies and depositional environment

Franziska Heuer, Lucyna Leda, Hemen Moradi-Salimi, Jana Gliwa, Vachik Hairapetian, Dieter Korn

Summary: The geological section at Baghuk Mountain in Central Iran provides excellent exposures of fossiliferous marine sedimentary successions from the Late Permian to Early Triassic. Detailed analysis of microfacies changes across the Permian-Triassic boundary reveals that carbonate production and biogenic activity ceased simultaneously during the main mass extinction event towards the end of the Permian period.

The tornoceratid ammonoids from the Roteisenstein Formation of Dillenburg (Cephalopoda, Ammonoidea)

Dieter Korn, Juergen Bockwinkel

Summary: This study revises the Tornoceratina ammonoids from the Red Ironstone Formation of the Dillenburg area in the eastern Rhenish Mountains. It re-describes several species and proposes two new genera and one new species. Additionally, a new species from the Anti-Atlas region of Morocco is described and compared with known species.

Taxonomy and ontogeny of the Lituitida (Cephalopoda) from Orthoceratite Limestone erratics (Middle Ordovician)

Martina Aubrechtova, Dieter Korn

Summary: This study revises the Ordovician ectocochleate cephalopods of the Lituitida order, mainly found in Germany, Poland, and the Kaliningrad Region of Russia. A total of 28 species belonging to seven genera were identified, with 11 newly described species. The concept of several taxa described in the 19th century was refined, and neotypes were proposed for two ambiguous species.

Early Carboniferous nautiloids from the Central Sahara, southern Algeria

Dieter Korn, Juergen Bockwinkel

Summary: This study describes coiled nautiloids from five different localities in southern Algeria, which are dated to the Tournaisian and early to middle Viséan stages of the Early Carboniferous. The researchers discovered new genera and species, providing important contributions to the study of Early Carboniferous biota in the region.

OSTRACODS FROM THE END-PERMIAN MASS EXTINCTION IN THE ARAS VALLEY SECTION (NORTH-WEST IRAN)

Jana Gliwa, Marie-Beatrice Forel, Sylvie Crasquin, Abbas Ghaderi, Dieter Korn

Summary: The study of ostracods in the Aras Valley section of northwest Iran revealed a significant turnover in species composition during the end-Permian mass extinction event, from a low-diversity Fabalicypris-dominated community to a more diverse Bairdiacypris-dominated community. This turnover coincided with a significant temperature increase and suggests that environmental changes, such as thermal stress, may have influenced ostracod assemblages prior to the extinction event.
