Summary: The study analyzed the global effects of austerity policies implemented in the EU by simulating three alternative policy measures and examining their impact on the main macroeconomic variables of seven regions worldwide. The policies led to contractionary effects on the EU's activity levels and changes in income distribution, which were detrimental to labor, while having mostly negligible effects on the rest of the world, driven by changes in trade flows.

Summary: In the European Union, the current healthcare system is unable to handle the increasing number of patients due to factors such as a lack of preparation for longevity and rapid shocks, and a deteriorating healthcare professional-patient ratio. The importance of personalized treatment to bridge the gap and support hospitality in healthcare is unquestionable. The paper presents interconnected solutions including eHealth solutions and training new rehabilitation experts to support the essence of hospitality in hospitals and homecare.

Summary: This article compares the attack rates of COVID-19 in healthcare workers and non-healthcare workers in nine European countries. The findings show that healthcare workers have higher attack rates of infection, hospitalization, and ICU admission compared to non-healthcare workers, but a relatively lower death rate. The differences may be attributed to better access to treatment, early detection of infection, and the healthy worker effect.

Summary: The study found that in EU countries, the COVID-19 death rate was inversely associated with the number of available general hospitals, physicians, and nurses, and positively associated with acute care bed occupancy, population aged older than 65 years, overweight or cancer. However, total healthcare expenditure, public sector health expenditure, and the number of hospital and acute care beds did not influence COVID-19 death rate.

Summary: With Poland as a case study, this research compares the country to the European Union (EU) in terms of COVID-19-related mortality and vaccine coverage. The study finds that Poland had higher COVID-19 and all-cause mortality rates compared to the EU average during the study period. Additionally, higher vaccination rates in EU member states were associated with lower mortality. The research emphasizes the importance of risk science in managing the pandemic and suggests that better understanding of risk perception and vaccine acceptance could have led to more effective vaccination strategies in Poland.

Summary: The study found that spine spending is influenced by provider availability, with a stronger impact observed for spine surgeon availability. A decrease in provider availability leads to a decrease in individual spine spending, but changes in the national workforce size of primary care physicians have a larger effect on national spine spending.
