Summary: This study found that melatonin can alleviate the damage of cadmium on the adult rat testis, including decreased testosterone concentrations, altered sperm parameters, and disruption of the blood-testis barrier and germ cell structure. Melatonin can reduce oxidative damage caused by cadmium, reverse observed changes, and improve sperm quality.

Summary: Autophagy plays a critical role in spermatogenesis, but disruption of autophagic flux can lead to cell death. This study reveals that cadmium-induced autophagy might be involved in the regulation of spermiophagy and highlights the potential high risk to male fertility in the context of cadmium toxicity.

Summary: Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic metal that can cause chronic exposure and increase the risk of various cancers. It is mainly released into the environment through human activities such as industrial processes, pollution, waste incineration, and electronic waste recycling. Cd-induced carcinogenesis mechanisms include oxidative stress, inhibition of antioxidant enzymes, lipid peroxidation, and interference with DNA repair systems. Proper treatments for Cd poisoning and preventive measures to counteract chronic exposure are summarized in this paper.

Summary: Cadmium (Cd) is a heavy metal pollutant that causes toxicological effects on the testes. Morin hydrate, a plant-derived bioflavonoid, may have a protective effect against Cd-induced testicular impairment. In vivo and in vitro studies were conducted to investigate the role of Morin on Cd-mediated testicular toxicity. The results showed that Morin upregulated testicular visfatin and GCNA expression, improved testosterone levels, testicular histology, and sperm parameters in Cd-intoxicated mice. It also normalized the downregulation of visfatin and GCNA expression and suppressed testosterone secretion from testicular explants. Overall, Morin might play a protective role against Cd-induced testicular toxicity by upregulating testicular visfatin and GCNA expression.

Summary: Testis cancer (TC) is the most common malignancy of young men. Current evidence suggests a significant role of toxic metals, cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb), in the origin and development of TC. This study investigated metal levels in blood, healthy, and tumor testis tissue and revealed hormone, oxidative status, and bioelements levels in TC patients. The study found significantly higher blood Cd levels in TC patients, but no significant difference in metal concentration between healthy and tumor testis tissue.

Summary: Cadmium is a highly toxic heavy metal element that poses a serious threat to food safety and agricultural production worldwide. Silicon, the second most abundant element in the Earth's crust, has been widely studied for its ability to promote plant growth and alleviate cadmium toxicity. This review summarizes the recent progress in understanding how silicon mitigates cadmium toxicity in plants, including its role in reducing cadmium uptake and transport, improving nutrient supply, regulating antioxidant systems, optimizing plant architecture, and enhancing water balance.

Summary: ENPs can resist heavy metal toxicity in plants, but their coexposure still exhibits toxicity to plants. This study aimed to investigate the toxic mechanism of nano TiO2 or TiO2-Cd on rice using transcriptomics and metabolomics. The findings showed that nano TiO2-Cd coexposure significantly decreased the plant height and root dry weight of rice. Nano TiO2 exposure induced regulation of DEGs and metabolites, while nano TiO2-Cd coexposure identified a greater number of DEGs and differential metabolites. The study highlights the importance of being cautious when using ENPs to combat heavy metal phytotoxicity.
