Racemosin A (1), a structurally unique bisindole alkaloid possessing the seco-indolo[3,2-a] carbazole skeleton with two uncommon indolinenone units both conjugated with a methyl propenoate moiety, and its unusual cyclized derivative, racemosin B (2), were isolated from the green alga Caulerpa racemosa, together with the most commonly encountered pigment in the genus Caulerpa, caulerpin (3). Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis and by comparison with data for related known compounds. A plausible biosynthetic pathway of 1 and 2 was proposed. In a neuro-protective assay, compound 1 significantly attenuated the A beta(25-35)-induced SH-SY5Y cell damage with a 14.6% increase in cell viability at the concentration of 10 mu M when compared to epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG, 16.57% increase at 10 mu M) as the positive control. Identification and Mapping of QTL for Stripe Rust Resistance in the Chinese Wheat Cultivar Shumai126

Yufan Wang, Yanling Hu, Fangyi Gong, Yarong Jin, Yingjie Xia, Yu He, Yun Jiang, Qiang Zhou, Jingshu He, Lihua Feng, Guoyue Chen, Youliang Zheng, Dengcai Liu, Lin Huang, Bihua Wu

Summary: Stripe rust, caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici, is a damaging disease of wheat globally, and breeding resistant cultivars is the best control strategy. This study aimed to identify and map quantitative trait loci (QTL) for resistance to stripe rust in a population of 154 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from a cross between cultivars Taichang29 (TC29) and Shumai126 (SM126). Six QTL were mapped on chromosomes 1BL, 2AS, 2AL, 6AS, 6BS, and 7BL, respectively, with QYr.sicau-1BL and QYr.sicau-2AS having major effects.

Efficient removal mechanism and microbial characteristics of tidal flow constructed wetland based on in-situ biochar regeneration (BR-TFCW) for rural gray water

Yong Liao, Lei Jiang, Xuekang Cao, Hao Zheng, Lihua Feng, Qian Zhang, Qiushi Shen, Fangying Ji

Summary: In this study, a biochar regeneration tidal flow constructed wetland (BR-TFCW) was constructed and its performance in removing pollutants, microbial community characteristics, pollutant removal mechanisms, and biochar in-situ regeneration mechanisms were explored. The results showed that the BR-TFCW had a high removal rate of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and the biochar could maintain its adsorption capacity through the cycle of adsorption and biological regeneration.

Characterization of novel low-molecular-weight glutenin subunit genes from the diploid wild wheat relative Aegilops umbellulata

Wenyang Wang, Wenjun Ji, Lihua Feng, Shunzong Ning, Zhongwei Yuan, Ming Hao, Lianquan Zhang, Zehong Yan, Bihua Wu, Dengcai Liu, Lin Huang

Summary: In this study, 35 novel low molecular weight glutenin subunit (LMW-GS) genes were obtained from Aegilops umbellulata using allelic-specific PCR. These LMW-GS genes shared the same primary structure as other known LMW-GSs. One specific gene had more cysteine residues than others, which could have positive effects on dough properties. Extensive variations were found among the LMW-GS genes in Ae. umbellulata, mainly resulting from single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and insertions and deletions (InDels). This study highlights the potential value of the novel LMW-GS alleles from Ae. umbellulata for improving wheat quality.

A Novel Exosome-Relevant Molecular Classification Uncovers Distinct Immune Escape Mechanisms and Genomic Alterations in Gastric Cancer

Yubiao Lin, Kaida Huang, Zhezhen Cai, Yide Chen, Lihua Feng, Yingqin Gao, Wenhui Zheng, Xin Fan, Guoqin Qiu, Jianmin Zhuang, Shuitu Feng

Summary: This study provides assistance for personalized therapy for gastric cancer through exosome-based classification. The results show that exosome-relevant phenotype B has a poorer prognosis, an inflamed tumor microenvironment, and higher responses to the anti-CTLA4 inhibitor. The exosome-based gene signature can independently and accurately predict gastric cancer prognosis, which is linked to stromal activation and immunosuppression.

The Signless p-Laplacian Spectral Radius of Graphs with Given Degree Sequences

Zhouyang Chen, Lihua Feng, Wei Jin, Lu Lu

Summary: This paper investigates the spectral radius of the signless p-Laplacian of a graph, which extends the quadratic form of the signless Laplacian matrix for p = 2. It considers a non-increasing sequence of positive integers pi and the set of graphs with degree sequence pi, denoted as G(pi). The paper provides transformations for graphs in G(pi) that maintain or increase the largest eigenvalue of the signless p-Laplacian. It also identifies the graph in G(pi) that maximizes the signless p-Laplacian spectral radius under certain conditions.

The importance of rest phase and pollutant removal mechanism of tidal flow constructed wetlands (TFCW) in rural grey water treatment

Yong Liao, Zhigang Wan, Xuekang Cao, Lei Jiang, Lihua Feng, Hao Zheng, Fangying Ji

Summary: This paper investigated the effects of the rest phase of tidal flow constructed wetlands (TFCW) on pollutant removal and microbial communities, and analyzed the mechanism of TFCW in removing pollutants from grey water. The results showed that enhancing the rest phase of TFCW led to better aerobic removal of organic matter in the microbial community, while limiting the rest phase had the opposite effect. The microbial community in TFCW did not have the ability to nitrify, but it was able to remove phosphorus.

Performance and mechanism of falling water enhanced tidal flow constructed wetlands (F-TFCW) for rural grey water treatment

Hao Zheng, Yong Liao, HongXiang Chai, Liuwei Zhao, Xuekang Cao, Lihua Feng, Fangying Ji

Summary: A falling water enhanced tidal flow constructed wetlands (F-TFCW) was constructed to solve the problems of insufficient oxygen supply and low pollutant removal efficiency in traditional constructed wetlands (CW). The effects of falling water reoxygenation, tidal operation, and flood rest ratio (F/R) on the pollutant removal performance of F-TFCW were examined. The results showed that F-TFCW exhibited high removal rates for COD, NH4+-N, and TP, and the microbial analysis revealed the pollutant removal mechanism of F-TFCW.

THE MAXIMUM SPECTRAL RADIUS OF GRAPHS WITH A LARGE CORE

Xiaocong He, Lihua Feng, Dragan Stevanovic

Summary: The (k+1)-core of a graph G is obtained by repeatedly removing any vertex of degree less than or equal to k. Ck+1(G) is the unique induced subgraph of minimum degree larger than k with a maximum number of vertices. In this paper, we prove that Rn,k,m obtains the maximum spectral radius and signless Laplacian spectral radius among all n-vertex graphs whose (k+1)-core has at most m vertices. Our result extends a recent theorem proved by Nikiforov in 2014 and we also present the bipartite version of our result.
