Summary: The study aimed to describe the vaccination rates in volunteers from three regions of Argentina during the COVID-19 pandemic. A survey of 3853 adults in 2020 found that the influenza vaccination rate was 37.7%, pneumococcal vaccination rate was 24.7%, and both vaccines were received by 17.8% of the participants. The study showed suboptimal vaccination rates among high-risk patients in Argentina and highlighted the potential neglect of immunizations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of influenza and pneumococcal vaccines in patients with COPD. The results showed that both vaccines, when used separately or together, effectively reduced the risk of acute exacerbations, pneumonia, and hospitalizations in COPD patients, with the greatest effectiveness seen in preventing acute exacerbations.

Summary: In Denmark, low influenza and pneumococcal vaccination uptake rates were found among people living with HIV. Previous influenza vaccination had the highest impact on vaccination uptake, while lack of immunization guidance decreased the likelihood of vaccination. Interventions are needed to improve vaccination coverage, including increasing awareness of guidelines and providing education to physicians.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of increasing pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) coverage on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in China. Results showed that increasing vaccine coverage significantly reduced resistance against penicillin, amoxicillin, and third-generation cephalosporins, leading to a reduction in costs due to AMR.

Summary: This study examined the impact of increasing pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) coverage on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in China. The findings suggest that higher PCV coverage can significantly reduce AMR against commonly used antibiotics and lead to substantial cost savings in terms of direct and indirect costs related to AMR. Understanding the benefits of vaccines in reducing AMR is crucial for driving appropriate investment in this area.

Summary: This study estimated the vaccine effectiveness (VE) against severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) hospitalization in Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay during the 2022 influenza season. The results showed that the VE against any influenza-associated SARI hospitalization was 33.8%, and the VE against influenza A(H3N2)-associated SARI hospitalization was 30.4%. VE estimates were similar across target populations.

Summary: The study examined family physicians' and general internal medicine physicians' perceptions, knowledge, and practices regarding high-dose inactivated influenza vaccine (HD-IIV) and live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV). Many physicians believed HD-IIV is more effective for patients >= 65 years, and there was a misconception that ACIP had preferential recommendations for HD-IIV.

Summary: This preliminary study aimed to explore Lebanese physicians' knowledge of acupuncture and found that most physicians were unaware of the difference between traditional Chinese acupuncture and Western medical acupuncture. Interest in acupuncture among physicians in Lebanon appeared to be limited, with those who had tried or referred patients for acupuncture being more well informed about different acupuncture styles.

Summary: Occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens remains common among healthcare workers despite initiatives, with needlestick injuries being the main cause. At the American University of Beirut Medical Center, incidents resulting from blood-borne pathogen exposures showed a decreasing trend during the study period before increasing again in 2018. The nursing department was the only group that consistently showed a decrease in exposures.

Summary: The presence of Syrian refugees in Lebanon led to a resurgence of cutaneous leishmaniasis, with a significant increase in cases from 2012 to 2018. The majority of cases were observed in patients aged < 20 years, with the predominant species of Leishmania being L. tropica and L. major. Containment strategies and preventative measures are crucial in controlling the spread of the disease.
