Summary: In this study, the multiscale flow features in a wall-mounted cube wake are investigated using two-dimensional time-resolved particle image velocimetry measurements and wavelet transform. The control mechanism of the horizontal control hole (HCH) on the cube wake is also studied. The results show that the shear layer contains a continuous merging process of multiscale vortices, leading to momentum deficit. The HCH issuing flow weakens the vortices and hinders the interacting shear flows, thus reducing the momentum deficit in the near wake.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of applying corner chamfer on the wake of a square cylinder and understands the impact of various chamfer sizes on flow characteristics. The results show that the application of corner chamfer decreases the wake and improves the flow, such as reducing drag coefficient, minimizing the horseshoe vortex zone, and shrinking the wake region behind the cylinder.

Summary: Dynamical constraints on the wall layer in turbulent pipe flow result in a narrow peak in the streamwise component of the turbulent Lamb vector near the wall, and a scaling relationship between the wall layer depth and the depth of the viscous sublayer. An approximation of the Lamb vector distribution, which is equivalent to the gradient of Reynolds stress, is proposed. Integration of the equation for streamwise mean flow allows for an expression of the velocity profile in the wall layer.

Summary: This paper provides a mathematical description of the onset of instability for buoyancy-driven flow around a cone. The self-similar solutions of the basic flow are derived, and the linear instability properties are investigated using the Chebyshev collocation method. Primary instabilities on the cone surface are identified as type-I and type-II modes. Energy analysis reveals the dominant effects in different modes. This study is significant for understanding buoyancy-driven systems.

Summary: Algebraic explicit wall models are proposed to cover the entire inner region of the turbulent boundary layer, reducing the computational effort for large eddy simulation of wall-bounded turbulent flows. The models use closed-form formulas with logarithmic- or power-function-based laws of the wall to straightforwardly evaluate the friction velocity on near wall grids, demonstrating good performance in wall modeled large eddy simulation of turbulent plane channel flow.

Summary: The micropolar liquid model can explain and predict the behavior of real fluids through studying the local structure and micromotions of liquid particles. In this study, the radiative heat transmission of micropolar fluid over a solid sphere is investigated, and it is found that the intensity of the magnetic field and the volume fraction of nanoparticles have effects on velocity and energy transport.

Summary: This paper numerically studies the interactions between large arrays of wall-mounted flexible plates and oncoming laminar boundary-layer flows using the immersed boundary method. The influences of bending rigidity, mass ratio, and gap distance between adjacent plates on the dynamic behaviors are explored. Five distinct dynamic modes are identified, and the frequency lock-in phenomenon and various types of flow instability associated with different dynamic modes are discussed.
