Summary: Here, a single-camera stereo digital image correlation (DIC) method is developed for dynamic deformation measurement, and a dual-biprism high-speed stereo camera system is proposed. Full-field displacement and strain distributions are obtained using the stereo-DIC algorithm. The proposed system is verified to be an efficient and convenient tool for dynamic deformation measurement.

Summary: A novel hybrid composite honeycomb sandwich structure and metallic honeycomb sandwich structure were developed to consider blast loading. Finite element analysis and progressive damage modeling showed that the hybrid composite honeycomb sandwich structure had better blast resistance than the metallic honeycomb sandwich structure.

Summary: With the development of composite structures, polyurea elastomer can be used to enhance the protective performance of composite laminated structures. A study was done on the blast resistance of CFRP/polyurea composite plates using a 3D-DIC full-field measurement method. The results showed that the polyurea coating on the rear surface of CFRP exhibited superior blast resistance, while the deformation level of the composite plates increased with the decrease of scaled distance.

Summary: In this study, a composite sandwich structure made with carbon fiber woven face sheets and a relatively compliant foam core was subjected to 3-point bending. The experimental results were compared with five theoretical models and one numerical solution, with only one model showing good prediction accuracy.

Summary: This paper introduces a protective sandwich structure with dual-mechanism auxetic compression and tension behavior and evaluates its protective performance through numerical simulations. The results show that the sandwich structure has excellent performance in terms of energy absorption, stress mitigation, and deflection control, and offers better protection compared to an equivalent solid structure.

Summary: The study combines DIC and FEM for non-contact detection of defects in railway rails under dynamic loading, showing high sensitivity to fatigue cracks. The accurate model of defect-free rail operating at the same loading conditions provides a reliable reference for experimental data. The proposed DIC-FEM approach can be effectively used for remote control of rails and non-destructive testing of various other objects operating under dynamic loads.

Summary: Studying the failure mechanism of filling bodies under blast loading is significant for guiding production in metal mines. In this study, a plane explosive loading model of an ore-filling body was developed using a self-made mould, and a Digital Image Correlation (DIC) technology-hyperdynamic strain synchronization test system was established. The results showed that the filling body exhibited different failure patterns under different blast loading strengths.

The compressive strengths and failure modes were analyzed theoretically and validated experimentally, with an acceptable error between the two. Summary: Modern cameras are limited in capturing optical information by electronic data transfer bandwidth, resulting in reduced resolution. To address this issue, a continuously streaming compressed high-speed photography technique was developed. By performing compressed imaging in a time-delay-integration manner, it was possible to record high-resolution videos at a high speed.

Summary: Experimental and numerical studies on the blast response of clamped sandwich panels with layered-gradient aluminium foam cores showed that all layered-gradient core sandwich panels have weaker blast resistance capability compared to ungraded sandwich panels due to reduced structural integrity. For a given effective impulse, the specific energy absorption value of positive gradient sandwich panels is the largest, followed by ungraded sandwich panels, with negative gradient sandwich panels being the lowest.

Summary: In order to minimize the fatal threats of fully confined blasts to surface battleships, ultralight all-metallic sandwich panels with square honeycomb cores are proposed as an alternative to traditional metallic plates for ship construction. A combined experimental and numerical approach is used to investigate the dynamic responses of the sandwich panels under blast loading and compare its blast resistance to that of the monolithic counterpart. Finite element simulations with the CEL approach are performed to explore the physical mechanisms. The results show that the proposed sandwich panel exhibits significantly higher blast resistance due to its consumption of impact energy through various deformation modes.
