Summary: Fibrosis, resulting from extracellular matrix protein deposition, is a leading cause of death in the USA. Therapeutic options targeting the tumor necrosis super family (TNFSF) members show promise in degrading or reversing fibrosis in various organs. This review provides insights into the involvement of TNFSF in fibrosis and emphasizes the importance of targeting this superfamily to improve current therapies.

Summary: A 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase (2-ODD) gene responsible for tanshinone IIA biosynthesis in Salvia miltiorrhiza was identified in this study. The gene, known as Sm2-ODD14, acts as a dehydrogenase and catalyzes the aromatization of the furan ring. The study also showed that Sm2-ODD14 controls the metabolite flux from dihydrofuran- to furan-tanshinones, which impacts the medicinal properties of S. miltiorrhiza.

Summary: The study identified the tumor necrosis superfamily (TNFSF) and their receptors (TNFRs) in spotted gar, showing their crucial role in inflammatory responses. The genes have conserved structure and expression similar to their homologs in zebrafish and humans, involved in immune response and expanding knowledge on the TNF system in primitive ray-finned fish.

Summary: This study evaluated the cytotoxicity of a new titanium nanoparticle functionalized with a sodium carboxylic ligand in human keratinocytes and human fibroblasts. The results demonstrated decreased cell viability at the highest concentrations tested for both cell lines, with only fibroblasts showing cell membrane damage and increased reactive oxygen species production. The study suggests that the cytotoxicity mechanism is dependent on cell type, dose, and time.

Summary: The study found that ILs with longer alkyl chains exhibited greater biocidal activity at relevant concentrations, comparable to commonly used biocides. The primary cytotoxic mechanism was determined to be necrosis, with apoptosis observed at lower concentrations. The modification of anion significantly affected cytotoxicity, indicating that cytotoxicity may be a tuneable property when using ILs as biocides.

Summary: The study compared the anti-cancer activity of free thymoquinone and thymoquinone-loaded liposomes on melanoma cells. The results showed that thymoquinone had different antiproliferative and proapoptotic effects on different melanoma cell lines, and thymoquinone-loaded liposomes exhibited stronger cytotoxicity on the cells.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of synthetic guanidines on human cancer cells and found that one compound showed the highest cytotoxicity. It was effective against leukemia cells and melanoma cells, with low cytotoxicity against normal cells. These synthetic guanidines may be useful in developing new strategies against cancer.

Summary: O. vulgaris ink, particularly the dichloromethane extract, demonstrates potential health benefits such as antimutagenic, cytoprotective, and antiproliferative effects on human cancer cell lines. The discovery of a novel compound in the purified fractions highlights the promising bioactivity of understudied marine natural products like OI, which may have implications for cancer prevention and treatment. Further research is needed to explore the mechanisms and health benefits of OI at different levels of investigation.

Summary: GPC3 is highly expressed in multiple solid tumors and is barely expressed in adult normal tissues except the placenta. NKp46 activation receptor is expressed in all-natural killer cells, including tumor-infiltrating NK cells. CYT-303 is a multifunctional antibody that targets both GPC3 and NKp46 to mediate NK cell-redirected killing of HCC tumors.
