Summary: Photodynamic therapy using a conventional photosensitizer was replaced by second-generation photosensitizer talaporfin sodium to reduce adverse reactions in treating esophageal cancer. Endoscopic PDT using talaporfin sodium was approved as a salvage treatment for patients with local failure after chemoradiotherapy for esophageal cancer, based on favorable clinical trial results. Further evaluation is needed to determine the importance of PDT in the treatment of esophageal cancer.

Summary: Retrospective analysis showed that talaporfin sodium mediated photodynamic therapy (PDT) could potentially provide survival benefits for recurrent glioblastoma (GBM) patients, and its efficacy is independent of the pre-recurrence pathology.

Summary: PD and PDT using talaporfin sodium have been widely used in Japan for intracranial malignant tumors. However, there is a lack of research on malignant spinal cord tumors, which have poorer clinical outcomes compared to brain tumors. This report presents the first case of using PD and PDT for a malignant spinal cord tumor, showing promising efficacy.

Summary: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been proven effective and safe in treating malignant central airway stenosis. However, the appropriate laser dose for talaporfin PDT remains unclear. This review of cases treated with talaporfin PDT suggests that a laser dose of 100 J/cm2 is feasible for improving airway stenosis in malignant central airway stenosis.

Summary: The study found that Laserphyrin (R)-HVJ-E prepared with 15 mM of Laserphyrin (R) had high photocytotoxicity and maintained the ability of HVJ-E to induce direct cytotoxicity. The therapeutic effect of Laserphyrin (R)-HVJ-E was substantially equivalent to that of Laserphyrin (R) alone, even at half the concentration. By combining the cytotoxicities of HVJ-E and PDT, Laserphyrin (R)-HVJ-E showed higher potency than Laserphyrin (R).

Summary: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an anti-cancer therapy that uses a photosensitizer and specific light irradiation. The combination of TS-PDT and anti-PD-1 antibody shows potential in enhancing anti-tumor immunity. TS-PDT induces cell death and the release/expression of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) in vitro. In mouse models, the combination treatment inhibits tumor growth compared to single treatments or non-treatment groups.

Summary: The study compares the efficacy and tolerability of conventional photodynamic therapy (c-PDT) and indoor daylight photodynamic therapy (idl-PDT) for the treatment of actinic cheilitis (AC). Both treatment options were found to be highly effective, with idl-PDT showing milder inflammatory reaction and pain scores.

Summary: Talaporfin sodium photodynamic therapy (TS-PDT) has been shown to be highly effective and less invasive for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients with local failure after chemoradiotherapy. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of PST in Tottori University Hospital, Japan. Results showed that TS-PDT was safe and effective in the first eight cases, with a high L-CR rate of 87.5% and a 2-year OS rate of 87%.

Summary: This study examined the outcomes of patients with biliary duct carcinoma treated with particle beam therapy. The results showed that particle beam therapy has good efficacy for biliary duct carcinoma, with higher radiation doses improving overall survival. In particular, higher radiation doses were associated with better outcomes for patients with extrahepatic biliary duct carcinoma.

Summary: HCC patients with B1-B3 BDTT have more advanced tumor stages and adverse clinicopathological features. The imaging features of HCC with BDTT on CT and MRI scans, including HCC lesions and intrahepatic bile duct dilation, might facilitate the early diagnosis of B1-B3 BDTT.
