Summary: This study found that genetic variants of ARRB1 may influence the response to antidepressant drug treatment in depressed patients. The analysis of rare variants showed significant associations with changes in HDRS scores and remission. The results suggest that beta-arrestin 1 and genetic variants of ARRB1 may serve as useful clinical biomarkers for clinical improvement following antidepressant drug treatment in depressed individuals.

Summary: This study investigated the predictive value of defensive functioning and defense mechanisms in determining the effectiveness of brief psychodynamic psychotherapy for recurrent and chronic depression in an inpatient setting. The results showed that changes in defensive functioning along with mature and immature defense mechanisms during therapy were predictive of treatment response, with the addition of psychotic defenses enhancing the prediction of treatment outcomes. The findings support the role of defensive functioning as a predictor of treatment outcomes and a mechanism of change in psychotherapy.

Summary: Depressed patients exhibit deficits in interoception and attention, with no clear mediating relationship between the two variables identified in this study. Further research is needed to explore the effectiveness of different approaches to improving interoceptive accuracy in depressed patients as a potential aspect of therapy.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the association between different types of depressive symptoms and mortality due to cancer and other causes. The results showed that cognitive/emotional depressive symptoms (C-EDS) were associated with an increased risk of cancer mortality in both men and women, while somatic depressive symptoms (SDS) were significantly associated with non-cancer mortality in men. The use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) was also associated with both cancer and non-cancer mortality, but only in the male population.

Summary: This study found that recently having a child was not associated with an increase in antidepressant treatment among men. However, fathers who had previously received antidepressant treatment were more likely to receive antidepressant treatment after childbirth. Further research is needed to understand if antidepressant treatment or experiencing depression can hinder fatherhood and if fatherhood can be a barrier to receiving antidepressant treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between thyroid autoimmunity and treatment-emergent mania (ATEM) in pediatric mood disorders. The findings showed that the seroprevalence and titer of anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO-abs) were significantly higher in patients with ATEM compared to controls. Logistic regression analysis revealed a significant association between TPO-abs seroprevalence and ATEM even after adjusting for various factors. These findings suggest that TPO-abs could potentially serve as a biomarker for assessing the risk of ATEM in children and adolescents.

Summary: Based on a cohort study involving 1234 patients undergoing ACL revision surgery, it was found that autografts had lower rerupture rates and higher activity levels compared to allografts at the 6-year follow-up. Bone-patellar tendon-bone and soft tissue autografts performed better than bone-patellar tendon-bone allografts, highlighting the importance of graft choice in revision ACL reconstruction outcomes.

Summary: While Cognitive Control Training (CCT) has been suggested as a potential adjunctive intervention for depression, this study found no short-term beneficial effects when added to usual treatment for depressed inpatients. Further research on individual differences and conditions predicting training response is crucial for understanding the effectiveness of CCT.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of childhood trauma and severe events later in life on the stress-response systems of the body in depressed patients. Severe recent life events were found to impair the stress-response systems and treatment response in patients with major depressive disorder. Additional treatment options, such as psychotherapy or immune-modulating approaches, may be needed for patients with a history of severe life events.

Summary: This study used a polygenic score (PGS) and electroencephalography (EEG) data analysis to identify potential predictors for treatment outcomes in major depressive disorder (MDD). The results suggest the existence of a stable EEG network related to antidepressant-response that has potential as a predictor for MDD treatment, particularly in the case of venlafaxine.
