Summary: This study identified factors associated with chronic fatigue in childhood cancer survivors, including obesity, physical inactivity, poor sleep, anxiety, depression, pain, self-esteem, social functioning, and female sex. These factors are modifiable and may help prevent or reduce chronic fatigue in childhood cancer survivors.

Summary: The study found that high Healthy Lifestyle Index Score and high Smoking, Nutrition, Alcohol Consumption and Physical Activity score were associated with lower risk of fatigue. In addition, higher SNAP score was associated with lower risk of fatigue. However, the change in Healthy Lifestyle Index Score was not significantly associated with fatigue.

Summary: This study explored the epidemiological characteristics of CFS in South Korea using nationwide medical records. The annual mean incidence and prevalence of CFS increased from 2010 to 2020, with a trend of increasing with aging and a slight female predominance. This study provides valuable information for future research on CFS.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the proportion of cases of Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) that could be prevented by modifiable lifestyle factors. Using several cohorts in the US and Europe, the researchers created modifiable risk scores and healthy lifestyle scores, and found that a significant number of CD and UC cases could be prevented through lifestyle modification.

Summary: This prospective population-based study assessed the predictors of new onsets of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), and fibromyalgia (FM). The study found that syndrome-specific predictors were more common than shared ones. The study also revealed a close relationship between IBS and FM, which requires further research.

Summary: This study provides 12-year nationwide epidemiological data on chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) in Taiwan, showing a higher prevalence of various comorbidities in CFS patients compared to controls. Treatment options including SSRIs, SNRIs, SARIs, TCAs, BZD, NDRIs, muscle relaxants, analgesics, psychotherapies, and exercise therapies were prescribed more frequently in the CFS cohort.

Summary: This study aimed to assess whether psychiatric disorders predict the onset of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) in individuals with pre-existing muscle pain or fatigue. The study included a large cohort of adults and used logistic regression to identify the predictors of new onsets of each syndrome. The results showed that psychiatric disorders were associated with the onset of CFS in individuals with prior fatigue, but not with the onset of fibromyalgia in individuals with prior muscle pain.

Summary: It is important to analyze the lifestyle factors in patients with chronic pain without stigmatization. Some lifestyle factors, such as alcohol consumption, smoking, cannabis use, or psychostimulant intake, are harmful to patients, while physical activity and a balanced diet are considered beneficial, but require effort on the part of patients.

Summary: This study found that both physical and mental fatigability are associated with increased fall risk in elderly men, with physical fatigability increasing the risk by 20% and mental fatigability increasing the risk of recurrent falling by 35% and 44% respectively.

Summary: The study found that both physical and mental fatigue are frequently experienced simultaneously in people with non-communicable chronic diseases, but can also occur separately. There is a lack of discussion and treatment for fatigue among healthcare professionals, highlighting the need for increased awareness.

Summary: This study found that Internet addiction is indirectly associated with dental caries through unhealthy lifestyle behaviors among high school students. Students with Internet addiction were more likely to have dental caries, which can be partially explained by their engagement in unhealthy lifestyle behaviors.

Summary: A case of unusual human anaplasmosis in the Amazon rainforest of French Guiana is reported. Molecular typing revealed that the pathogen is a novel Anaplasma species, distinct from all known species, and more genetically related to recently discovered Anaplasma spp. causing infections in rainforest wild fauna of Brazil.

Summary: Perceived physical fatigability is a common issue among older adults and is associated with mobility decline and other health consequences. This study found that perceived physical fatigability is independently associated with the risk of death among older adults, with higher fatigability scores indicating a higher risk of death.

Summary: Several COVID-19 vaccine candidates have shown promise, but uncertainty remains about their effectiveness and global distribution. Boosting innate immunity with vaccines like BCG may play a role in combating COVID-19, as evidenced by lower infection and seropositivity rates in BCG-vaccinated individuals. Further clinical trials are needed to explore the potential of BCG vaccination in COVID-19 and future pandemics.

Summary: As our ancestors migrated, natural selection favored alleles advantageous in new environments, leading to varied susceptibility to diseases based on historical context, infection virulence, and geographical spread. The advent of Neolithic era in ancient European populations marked a significant shift in immune traits, promoting tolerance against intracellular pathogens and increased presence of traits related to inflammatory and auto-immune diseases.
