Summary: The study found an association between cadmium and lead levels and depressive symptoms, but not with anxiety levels. High lead levels may be related to anxiety and neurobehavioral deficits. Sex and smoking status were identified as potential confounders affecting the impact of cadmium on the depressive phenotype.

Summary: This study uses network analysis to investigate the role and interactions among individual depression and anxiety symptoms in youth. The findings suggest that negative self-evaluation, negative views of the future, and repetitive negative thinking play important roles in the presentation and co-occurrence of depression and anxiety, making them promising targets for treatment and prevention.

Summary: This systematic review examined the association between a vegetarian diet and mental health outcomes such as depression, anxiety, and stress. The results from 13 publications were analyzed, including four cohort studies and nine cross-sectional studies. The findings suggest that there is no significant association between a vegetarian diet and depression or anxiety. However, due to insufficient data, the relationship with stress could not be determined. Further cohort studies are needed to explore the effects of a vegetarian diet on mental health outcomes.

Summary: Early life is a critical period with significant vulnerability to external influences that can impact development and health, especially fetal exposure to prenatal stress which can affect brain development and neurodevelopment of offspring. Increased stress hormones have been associated with alterations in fetal brain structure, while epigenetic changes may lead to long-term modifications of the stress regulatory system in offspring and increased susceptibility to psychosomatic disorders.

Summary: Depression and anxiety are on the rise in modern society, causing significant impact on mental health and potentially leading to suicides. Despite the availability of antidepressants and anxiolytics, achieving remission in many patients remains a challenge. Researchers have turned their attention to neuropeptides, which are a diverse group of signaling molecules in the nervous system, in an effort to better understand the pathophysiology of depression and anxiety. This review examines the current knowledge on neuropeptides, their involvement in stress adaptation, and their potential implications for future research and therapy.

Summary: Nightmares are often overlooked as a treatment priority in psychiatric disorders, despite their prevalence. This systematic review aimed to assess the causal relationship between nightmares and psychiatric disorders. The limited literature suggests that treating nightmares can lead to reductions in PTSD, depression, anxiety, and paranoia symptoms, indicating a potential causal relationship. However, there is a lack of research on nightmares in most psychiatric disorders.
