Summary: This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) using various exploratory and confirmatory factorial approaches. The results suggest a unidimensional structure for the PCS and a short version of the scale, PCS-4, is proposed. The PCS-4 showed evidence of reliability and validity in measuring pain catastrophizing in Chilean patients with musculoskeletal pain.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between regular walking behavior and pain and fatigue in patients with fibromyalgia, and finds that pain catastrophizing and the impact of fibromyalgia mediate this relationship. Additionally, participants who walk less regularly experience more pain and fatigue after the walking test. Therefore, therapeutic walking programs for fibromyalgia patients should consider cognitive variables and the impact of fibromyalgia to reduce pain and fatigue and improve functioning and quality of life.

Summary: Psychological factors such as pain catastrophizing, anxiety, and depression are common in patients with hip pathology, but improvements in hip functionality are associated with decreased severity of these psychological comorbidities. This study highlights the correlation between musculoskeletal impairment and psychosocial outcomes.

Summary: This study examines the temporal relationship between psychological and pain-related factors in endometriosis. It finds that baseline emotional distress is the only variable that predicts pain catastrophizing, functional pain disability, and concomitant emotional distress 12 months later.

Summary: This study found that experimentally induced optimism can reduce situational pain catastrophizing, and this relationship is influenced by dispositional optimism and dispositional pain catastrophizing. The state optimism induction apparently counteracted the manifestation of dispositional pain catastrophizing as situational pain catastrophizing.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the impact of pain-avoidance goals and pain catastrophizing on pain perception in women with fibromyalgia after a 6-minute walking test. The results showed that pain-avoidance goals mediated the relationship between sedentary behavior and pain, and pain catastrophizing moderated the relationship between preference for pain-avoidance goals and pain perception. Higher levels of pain catastrophizing contributed to increased pain perceptions after completing the test.

Summary: Psychological factors such as pain catastrophizing and pain acceptance play a role in physical functioning in patients with fibromyalgia, affecting both self-reported and performance-based levels. Multidisciplinary interventions targeting these psychological factors may be effective in improving both perceived and performance-based functioning in patients.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to reduce and validate the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) and Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) questionnaires for use in outpatient and clinical settings. The reduced questionnaires showed acceptable psychometric properties and can be administered quickly, making them suitable for use in chronic musculoskeletal pain patients.

Summary: The study suggests that interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation programs (IPRPs) can effectively improve depressive symptoms by increasing pain self-efficacy and reducing a sense of helplessness. Both individual and group formats of IPRP demonstrated significant treatment effects, providing evidence for the treatment mechanisms in IPRP.
