Summary: This article describes a platinum-catalyzed desaturation of cyclic ketones to their conjugated alpha,beta-unsaturated counterparts, which operates under mild conditions without the need for strong bases or acids. The method shows good functional group tolerance and can be applied to diverse and complex structures. The mechanism involves fast and reversible alpha-deprotonation followed by a rate-determining beta-hydrogen elimination process, distinguishing it from prior palladium-catalyzed methods.

Summary: In this study, N-heterocyclic vinyl (NHV) substituted diphosphenes were isolated and characterized as both E- and Z-isomers. The thermodynamically more stable E-2b undergoes reversible photo-stimulated isomerization to Z-2b, which can be thermally reverted back to E-2b. The study also reveals the coordination of both E- and Z-2b to an AuCl fragment, as well as their different cycloaddition reactions.

Summary: This study reports on the synthesis and reductive elimination reactions of Au(III) methyl complexes. The reactions leading to the formation of C-heteroatom bonds in Au(III) complexes are uncommon and their mechanisms are not well known. The obtained results show that nucleophilic substitution should be considered as a likely reductive elimination pathway in Au(III) alkyl complexes.

Summary: This Letter presents an original spin valve device based on chiral templated nickel material, inducing chirality in Ni by co-electrodeposition of an organic chiral template, using enantiopure tartaric acid as the template. The Z-shaped magnetoresistance curves switch sign based on the handedness of the chiral compound, demonstrating a peculiar ferromagnetic character induced by the presence of chirality.

Summary: In this study, 0.4%Pt/xSTA-MIL-101(Cr) metal-acid bifunctional catalysts were prepared by impregnation using STA-MIL-101(Cr) as the support. The catalyst showed high catalytic performance in n-heptane isomerization and maintained relatively high catalytic activity. A mechanism model for the catalyst was also established.

Summary: The replacement of benzene rings with sp(3)-hybridized bioisosteres in drug candidates generally improves pharmacokinetic properties while retaining biological activity. Rigid, strained frameworks such as bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane and cubane are particularly well suited as the ring strain imparts high bond strength and thus metabolic stability on their C-H bonds. We report expedient routes to 1,3- and 1,2-disubstituted cubane building blocks using a convenient cyclobutadiene precursor and a photolytic C-H carboxylation reaction, respectively, and develop cross-coupling protocols using copper as a catalyst. Our research enables facile elaboration of all cubane isomers into drug candidates, thus enabling ideal bioisosteric replacement of ortho-, meta-, and para-substituted benzenes.

Summary: An efficient cobalt-catalyzed geometrical isomerization of 1,3-dienes is described, where the combination of a CoCl2 precatalyst and anamido-diphosphine-oxazoline ligand enables stereoconvergent conversion of E/Z mixtures of 1,3-dienes to (E) isomers in high stereoselectivity. This method features broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and can be scaled up to gram scale with low catalyst loading.

Summary: A method for direct access to enantioenriched benzylic amides and carbamate-protected primary benzylamines by C-H functionalization is reported. The enantioselective intermolecular dehydrogenative C-N bond formation is enabled by a combination of a chiral copper catalyst, a photocatalyst, and an oxidant, and it takes place under mild conditions, which allow for a broad substrate scope. The method is compatible with late-stage C-H functionalization and provides easy access to N-15-labeled amides and amines starting from cheap (NH4Cl)-N-15.

Summary: This study developed a catalytic recipe of copper halides to address the issues of side reactions and selectivity in the 1,5-H transfer of alka-1,4-diyn-3-yl amines, providing various allenynes with excellent enantioselectivities. The method was successfully applied to the first highly enantioselective total synthesis of the natural product scorodonin. Mechanistic studies and DFT calculations elucidated the regioselectivity for the observed 1,5-H transfer.

Summary: Enantioselective tandem cycloisomerization/addition reactions of 2-alkynyl enones with 1- and 2-naphthols were investigated using gold(I) catalysts featuring hybrid phosphine-phosphoric acid chiral ligands, based on the tethered counterion-directed catalysis strategy. The reactions proceeded at low catalyst loading (0.2-1 mol%) without the need for silver additives, and the naphthols acted as both O- and C-nucleophiles, resulting in the formation of addition products with high enantioselectivity. The mechanism of these reactions was elucidated by DFT calculations.
