A series of Linear tridentate ligands, FcE(CH2)(3)E'(CH2)(3)EFc (E, E' = Se or Te), was synthesised. Their chloropalladium(II) and chloroplatinum(II) complexes were also prepared. The new compounds were characterised by a range of spectroscopic and analytical techniques, including multinuclear NMR spectrometry and X-ray crystallography. In an electro-chemistry study of the complexes no communication between the ferrocenyl centres was observed, regardless of the through-bond Fe center dot center dot center dot Fe distance.
