Summary: This study describes a Pd-catalyzed asymmetric hydroesterification of enimides with phenyl formate. A DIOP-based system was found to be a highly active catalyst, resulting in β-amino esters with high yields and stereoselectivity. The resulting amino ester can be easily converted to optically active β-amino acids with high yield.

Summary: The Thermodynamic Geometry (TG) of Mie fluids in the subcritical and supercritical region is studied using a third order thermodynamic perturbation theory equation of state (EOS). The R-crossing method of TG is applied to reproduce the coexistence curves related to Mie fluids. The behavior of the R-Widom line is analyzed and found to be dependent on the stiffness and range potential for the Mie fluids. A correspondence states principle is found for the R-Widom line, and a Clausius-Clapeyron-type relation near the critical point in the supercritical region is fulfilled.

Summary: A synthetic route to oxindole-3-acetic acid derivatives is achieved through a transition-metal free carbo-carboxylation reaction with in situ generated CO2- from formate under photo-induced conditions. The use of air as the oxidant in the presence of highly reductive CO2- species enables direct aryl C-H activation, avoiding the need for unfriendly organo (pseudo)halides as substrates.

Summary: The state-of-the-art catalyst system using palladium complexes for hydroxy- and alkoxycarbonylations of olefins has been complemented by a ruthenium-catalyzed hydroxycarbonylation method. This efficient transformation utilizes an inexpensive Ru-precursor and PCy3 ligand in the presence of hexafluoroisopropanol as solvent and acid co-catalyst to provide various carboxylic acids from unfunctionalized olefins.

Summary: The new results on diffusion in dense supercritical methane are examined from the perspective of freezing density scaling. It is found that the high pressure behavior of the self-diffusion coefficient is consistent with the freezing density scaling of dense Lennard-Jones and hard sphere fluids. The Stokes-Einstein relation is observed to hold in a wide pressure and density regime, but unexpected violation occurs at the highest densities near the freezing point.

Summary: A method for preparing alpha-chiral carboxylic acid derivatives, including those with all-carbon quaternary centers, was reported through an enantioselective CuH-catalyzed hydrocarboxylation of allenes with a commercially available fluoroformate. Various heterocycles and functional groups on the allenes were tolerated, resulting in enantioenriched alpha-quaternary and tertiary carboxylic acid derivatives with good yields and exclusive branched regioselectivity. The synthetic utility of this approach was further demonstrated by derivatization of the products to obtain biologically important compounds, such as the antiplatelet drug indobufen.

Summary: This study presents a Cu(ii)-Ni(ii) catalyzed tandem hydrocarboxylation of alkynes using polysilylformate derived from CO2 and polymethylhydrosiloxane, resulting in up to 93% yield of α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids. Mechanistic studies reveal that polysilylformate serves as a source of CO and polysilanol. Additionally, a catalytic amount of water is identified as crucial for the reaction, facilitating the hydrolysis of polysilylformate to formic acid and inducing the formation of Ni-H active species to initiate the catalytic cycle.

Summary: Vegetal residues combined with nucleophiles can serve as catalysts for carbon dioxide fixation in epoxides to form cyclic carbonates, with the best performance seen in combinations of olive bones, grape waste, date pit, and corn leaves husk residues with tetrabutylammonium bromide. High conversions were achieved at low nucleophile loading under mild conditions. The vegetal wastes were stable under catalytic conditions and recyclable after suitable treatment.

Summary: Zinc(II) complexes [Zn(L1-L5)Cl2] with tetra-aza donor ligands bearing phenanthroline and bipyridine bis(aniline) skeleton L1-L5 have been synthesized and characterized. The influence of three parameters, including steric hindrance of the orto substituent of aniline ring, central skeleton, and nature of non-aromatic amine, on the catalytic activity for CO2-cycloaddition to epoxides was analyzed using these ligands. X-ray diffraction characterization revealed that [Zn(L1)Cl2] and [Zn(L2)Cl2] are pentacoordinate, while [Zn(L5)Cl2] forms a four-coordinate tetrahedral complex. Computational calculations confirmed these results. When combined with tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB), these complexes exhibit high selectivity for the coupling of CO2 and terminal epoxides to form cyclic carbonates, with a TOF of up to 565 h-1.
