Summary: This study aimed to examine the association between lifestyle factors and suicide-related outcomes. Data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2015 and 2017 were analyzed, and lifestyle factors including smoking, physical activity, alcohol intake, and the Healthy Eating Index (HEI) were identified. The results showed that smoking and heavy drinking were associated with an increased risk of suicide-related outcomes, while high-quality diets and non-heavy drinking were associated with a decreased risk. The associations between lifestyle factors and suicide-related outcomes were stronger in people with depression.

Summary: It is important to analyze the lifestyle factors in patients with chronic pain without stigmatization. Some lifestyle factors, such as alcohol consumption, smoking, cannabis use, or psychostimulant intake, are harmful to patients, while physical activity and a balanced diet are considered beneficial, but require effort on the part of patients.

Summary: This study estimated the discriminatory power of census tracts on the prevalence of main risk factors for chronic diseases, finding a differential influence of the geosocial environment on these health risk factors. Accounting for census tracts significantly increased the discriminatory power for at-risk alcohol consumption, unbalanced diet, and leisure-time sedentarism, but not for tobacco consumption. The socioeconomic characteristics of the tracts played a minor role in influencing these risk factors, highlighting the need for further research on specific geosocial contextual variables explaining variability in these risk factors.

Summary: The health of older people is greatly influenced by their lifestyle, and efforts should be made to slow down the deterioration process. This study aimed to determine the relationship between diet quality and other non-food lifestyle elements among Polish elder citizens. The results identified three homogeneous clusters based on lifestyle components, and found that nutritional knowledge and health status were important factors associated with adherence to a pro-healthy lifestyle.

Summary: This study investigated the association between adherence to World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) lifestyle advice and the risk of 13 types of cancer, as well as the potential interaction with genetic risk. The findings suggest that adhering to WCRF lifestyle recommendations has beneficial associations with most cancers, and the protective effect is more significant for individuals at higher genetic risk for certain cancers.

Summary: In a community-based cohort study, meeting public health guidelines or best practice recommendations for lifestyle risk factors was associated with lower mortality from infectious diseases, including pneumonia and COVID-19. There was a beneficial dose-response association with a higher lifestyle index against mortality, which was consistent across different demographic groups.

Summary: Using poststratification to match the UKB sample to the target population revealed substantial changes in the protective associations between alcohol use and CVD mortality observed in the unweighted UKB data. Additionally, the difference between unweighted and poststratified estimates may underestimate health risks among individuals with the least healthy lifestyles.

Summary: This study examined changes in the health-related lifestyle among Finnish adults during the COVID-19 epidemic. The results showed that negative changes in lifestyle factors were more common than positive changes, particularly in leisure-time physical activity and active commuting to work. The highest proportion of negative changes was reported in late 2020. Therefore, it is important to implement health promotion actions to prevent the long-term effects of the epidemic on health and welfare.

Summary: Lifestyle factors can influence the expression of miRNAs, which in turn can modify gene expression and molecular pathways, affecting biological functions and leading to the development of pathological conditions. Investigating these interactions is crucial for understanding disease etiology, developing new treatment approaches, and disease prevention.

Summary: This study assessed the effectiveness of five front-of-pack food labels in guiding consumers towards healthier choices. The Nutri-Score and Multiple Traffic Lights performed best in terms of improving consumers' understanding and simulated choice outcomes, while the Reference Intakes performed the weakest. The results indicate that front-of-pack labels that effectively guide consumers towards healthier options can also help steer them away from unhealthy choices.

Summary: The equity of nutrition interventions is crucial in reducing socioeconomic health disparities. Front-of-pack nutrition labels play a vital role in providing accessible and comprehensible information for product packages, especially for those who have limited access to other forms of nutrition information. This study demonstrates that interpretive front-of-pack nutrition labels are equitable and effective interventions.

Summary: High consumption of red and processed meat is associated with adverse outcomes such as colorectal cancer and overall global mortality. This study analyzed metabolomics data and conducted preclinical experiments to investigate the underlying mechanisms. The results suggest that microbiota-derived metabolites, such as indoxyl sulfate and cinnamoylglycine, are impacted by a high red meat diet, indicating a modification of the gut microbiota. These findings provide potential biomarkers for red meat consumption and help explain the adverse effects associated with high red and processed meat consumption.

Summary: The nutritional quality of the EAT-Lancet reference diet has been rarely evaluated. This study examined the food and nutritional intakes of the French population and investigated the consistency between the French national recommendations and the EAT-Lancet reference diet. The results showed that adherence to the EAT-Lancet diet was associated with a decrease in nutrient inadequacy, but certain nutrients remained inadequate in all adherence levels.

Summary: This study aimed to assess explicit weight bias in French adults and explore the associations with weight status and sociodemographic characteristics. The results showed that fear of fat and belief in weight controllability were higher than dislike towards people with obesity. Fear of fat was higher among women, whereas dislike and belief in weight controllability were higher among men. Obesity was associated with greater fear of fat and lower dislike and belief in weight controllability. Lower income and lower education were associated with lower scores of dislike, fear of fat, and belief in weight controllability. This study provides valuable insights for interventions targeting the reduction of explicit weight bias.

Summary: This study investigated the association between taste or smell disorders and subject characteristics, symptom associations, and antibody response intensity in COVID-19 patients. The results showed that women, smokers, and people who consume more than 2 alcoholic drinks a day are more likely to develop taste or smell disorders. This symptom is strongly associated with antibody response and most patients also experience other symptoms.

Summary: Person-centered cardiovascular health (CVH) may serve as a reliable alternative to measured CVH in preventing cardiovascular disease in low resources settings. The study found a high concordance between person-centered and measured CVH, and identified a significant reduction in cardiovascular disease risk associated with person-centered ideal metrics.

Summary: This study examined the association between cardiovascular health scores and sexual minority status, finding disparities in cardiovascular health among sexual minority adults. Lesbian and bisexual women had lower cardiovascular health scores compared to heterosexual women, while gay and bisexual men had higher cardiovascular health scores compared to heterosexual men. Primordial prevention targeted at sexual minority populations may be necessary.
