Summary: This study investigates the use of coronary artery calcium scoring (CACS) as a tool for coronary artery disease (CAD) risk stratification and its association with conventional cardiovascular risk factors. The results demonstrate a strong positive correlation between CACS and coronary artery stenosis, indicating the potential of CACS as a useful tool for CAD risk assessment.

Summary: This study compares the survival rate of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated with a pharmacoinvasive (PI) strategy or primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) strategy. The results show that using a PI strategy can improve the survival rate of STEMI patients when pPCI cannot be performed within 120 minutes.

Summary: Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, particularly in low-income and middle-income countries and among older populations. Conventional diagnostic and therapeutic approaches have limitations, but nanotechnology offers promising alternatives for the diagnosis and treatment of CHD by utilizing the unique properties of nanomaterials. Nanomaterials can enhance early detection of CHD, facilitate targeted drug delivery and tissue engineering, and modulate inflammation and oxidative stress, addressing multiple aspects of CHD pathophysiology.

Summary: This study assessed the impact of sex differences on short-term and long-term mortality in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The analysis of 15 studies involving 128,585 patients showed that female patients had a higher short-term mortality rate but similar long-term mortality rate compared to male patients. These findings indicate the need for improved management in female STEMI patients.

Summary: This study found that high-risk patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) benefit more from intensive disease management, with significantly greater improvement in days alive and out of hospital (DAOH) compared to low-risk patients. Medication and interventional therapies were found to have significantly greater effects in high-risk patients, indicating a greater benefit in terms of readmission and death.

Summary: This nationwide study in Sweden aimed to describe the incidence, management, and outcome of spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) patients. The study found a low incidence of SCAD, with a higher proportion of male patients compared to previous studies. SCAD patients were younger with lower cardiovascular risk burden, but still had higher mortality and morbidity rates and more frequent acute coronary reangiography.

Summary: This is a multicenter randomized controlled trial aiming to determine whether alirocumab could reduce the incidence of type 4a MI or major periprocedural myocardial injury in patients with CHD undergoing elective PCI. The study will randomly assign 422 non-AMI CHD patients to receive standard pharmacotherapy or additional use of alirocumab. The primary outcome is the elevation of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin above the upper reference limit within 48 hours after PCI.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the prevalence of spin in systematic reviews. By analyzing 185 systematic reviews, it was found that 31.9% of the abstracts contained some form of spin. Seven forms of spin were identified among the nine most severe types. The study did not find statistically significant associations between spin and the evaluated study characteristics or methodological quality.

Summary: This study examined the long-term impact of childhood cancer on parental mental health, with a focus on potential sex differences between mothers and fathers. The results showed that the mental health of both parents was continuously affected by the diagnosis, but the impact was more severe for mothers. Therefore, tailored psychological services or interventions are necessary to support parents of children with cancer.

Summary: This study used Mendelian randomization analysis to investigate the association between dyslipidemia and diabetic retinopathy (DR). The findings suggest a negative association between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels and the development of DR, while CETP inhibitors were not found to be associated with DR. These results indicate a potential protective role of HDL-C in preventing DR.

Summary: In this study, genetic alterations in resectable pleural mesothelioma tissues and blood samples were analyzed, and it was found that high tissue tumor mutational burden, tissue median minor allele frequency, blood tumor mutational burden, and specific mutations were correlated with outcomes in patients with resected PM. These findings suggest that molecular profiling could help identify longer survivors in patients with resected PM.

Summary: This study explores the impact of metastatic sites on treatment outcomes for chemotherapy-refractory colorectal cancer patients. It found that patients with liver or peritoneal metastases had poor treatment outcomes, while those with lung-only metastases showed significant response. The presence of concurrent lymph node or other extrahepatic metastatic disease diminished treatment response in patients with lung metastases. Future checkpoint inhibitor trials should stratify patients based on metastatic locations.

Summary: The study reveals that nullpeptides can serve as biomarkers for cancer detection and treatment, particularly in highly recurrent cancer patients. These nullpeptides primarily occur in highly expressed genes, particularly in specific loci of oncogenes and tumor suppressors. Recurrent nullpeptides are more likely to be found in neoantigens, which play a significant role in immunotherapy.
