Summary: The aim of this study was to analyze the long-term side effects of cancer therapy on vascular structure/function, cardiac biomarkers, and physical activity in childhood cancer survivors (CCS). The study found that vascular structure/function parameters were not suitable for evaluating cardiovascular function in CCS, while early markers of cardiovascular dysfunction may be NTproBNP levels and exercise capacity.

Summary: This retrospective analysis examined the role of echocardiography-based myocardial strain in identifying survivors at risk for left ventricular dysfunction in cancer survivors aged 39 years or younger. The study found that longitudinal and circumferential strain measurements can potentially improve the identification of survivors at risk for cardiovascular dysfunction and allow for early intervention.

Summary: This study reevaluated survivors in the CCSS cohort using an improved HHybrid model, finding associations between heart RT doses and late cardiac disease risk. Updated risk estimates were generally consistent with prior estimates, but there were significant increases in cardiac disease risk in certain dose and volume categories with the updated dosimetry.

Summary: In echocardiographic surveillance of anthracycline-treated childhood cancer survivors, left ventricular ejection fraction may not be sufficient for predicting future cardiac events, while longitudinal strain might be more sensitive. This study found a low ten-year cumulative incidence of cardiac events in these survivors, suggesting that sensitive echocardiographic measurements like longitudinal strain may be useful for tailored surveillance.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE) combined with myocardial strain measurements to assess left ventricular contractile reserve in childhood cancer survivors who received cardiotoxic treatment. The results showed that DSE detected impaired myocardial contractile reserve in patients treated with anthracyclines during a 15-year follow-up. Therefore, DSE can help identify asymptomatic cancer survivors at risk for heart failure and guide appropriate follow-up.

Summary: Cancer is a leading cause of death among children worldwide, and while survival rates have improved, survivors are at risk of metabolic abnormalities that may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and premature mortality. Further research is needed to understand and improve long-term cardiometabolic outcomes for these patients.

Summary: Innovative treatment strategies have reduced cancer-related mortality in childhood cancer. Cancer survivors require personalized clinical attention due to the risk of long-term side effects of the treatments. Antineoplastic drugs, including anthracyclines and radiotherapy, can have adverse effects on the cardiovascular system. Nutritional changes during treatment and dietary habits in survivors can also impact their health. Nutrition may play a role in preventing cardiac damage, and practical advice can help improve the dietary habits of survivors and their families.

Summary: Among childhood cancer survivors, the prevalence of esophageal strictures is 2.0%, which is significantly higher than in siblings. Risk factors for esophageal stricture include diagnosis of Hodgkin lymphoma, higher chest radiation dose, younger age at cancer diagnosis, platinum chemotherapy, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Although rare, survivors are at risk for therapy-related esophageal strictures.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the long-term risks of hospitalization related to renal and urinary diseases among 5-year childhood cancer survivors (CCS). The results showed that CCS had a higher risk of renal hospitalization compared to the general population, and radiation therapy with certain dose-volume indicators increased the risk. It also identified specific risk factors associated with hospitalization for renal causes among CCS.

Summary: The study showed that Dox induced rapid extracellular secretion of NPM in hCmPCs, triggered by double-strand break formation, in the absence of apoptosis or necrosis. NPM release was also observed in response to UV radiation. Treatment with extracellular recombinant NPM inhibited cell proliferation and activated a TLR4-mediated response. NPM secretion in hCmPCs was found to be driven by an autophagy-dependent unconventional mechanism that requires TLR4.

Summary: In this study, genetic alterations in resectable pleural mesothelioma tissues and blood samples were analyzed, and it was found that high tissue tumor mutational burden, tissue median minor allele frequency, blood tumor mutational burden, and specific mutations were correlated with outcomes in patients with resected PM. These findings suggest that molecular profiling could help identify longer survivors in patients with resected PM.

Summary: This study explores the impact of metastatic sites on treatment outcomes for chemotherapy-refractory colorectal cancer patients. It found that patients with liver or peritoneal metastases had poor treatment outcomes, while those with lung-only metastases showed significant response. The presence of concurrent lymph node or other extrahepatic metastatic disease diminished treatment response in patients with lung metastases. Future checkpoint inhibitor trials should stratify patients based on metastatic locations.

Summary: The study reveals that nullpeptides can serve as biomarkers for cancer detection and treatment, particularly in highly recurrent cancer patients. These nullpeptides primarily occur in highly expressed genes, particularly in specific loci of oncogenes and tumor suppressors. Recurrent nullpeptides are more likely to be found in neoantigens, which play a significant role in immunotherapy.
