Summary: COVID-19 severe infection is associated with elevated auto-antibodies against specific receptors, which may contribute to vasoconstriction and inflammatory responses. The role and significance of these antibodies in disease severity are still not well understood and further research is needed.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between renin angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS) activation and endothelin-1 levels with coronary artery calcium (CAC) score, total plaque volume (TPV), high-risk plaque, hyperemic myocardial blood flow (MBF), and coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD). The study found that renin levels were positively associated with CAC score and TPV, while endothelin-1 levels were not significantly related to these parameters.

Summary: This study investigated the association between plasma renin and aldosterone concentrations and the blood pressure response to renal denervation. The results showed that renal denervation reduced daytime ambulatory systolic blood pressure, but renin and aldosterone concentrations did not predict the blood pressure response to renal denervation.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the impact of renal denervation (RDN) on the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system in blood pressure regulation. Results showed that plasma renin activity and aldosterone levels significantly decreased compared to baseline in RDN patients at 3 months, with higher baseline PRA levels associated with a more significant reduction in blood pressure.

Summary: Studies suggest that RAAS imbalance worsens the prognosis in COVID-19 patients, and experiments in pigs show that over-activation of ACE2 and RAAS can lead to a disease state similar to COVID-19 in humans. Imbalanced RAAS state in animals can be ameliorated by angiotensin receptor blockers and low-molecular-weight heparin.

Summary: Primary aldosteronism (PA) is a potentially curable form of secondary hypertension that requires measuring renin and aldosterone, followed by confirmatory tests. Various antihypertensive drug classes interfere with PA evaluation, with calcium antagonists and alpha-blockers being the least interfering drugs.

Summary: This study investigates if the renin-angiotensin and endothelin-1 response pathways in patients with takotsubo cardiomyopathy follow the same pattern of recovery as the left ventricular ejection fraction. It is found that despite the normalization of the left ventricular ejection fraction, there is long-term maladaptive activation of the renin-angiotensin system in patients with takotsubo cardiomyopathy.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of different antihypertensive medications following renal denervation (RDN) on blood pressure and cardiac phenotypes in spontaneously hypertensive rats. The results showed that treatment with amlodipine and olmesartan after RDN resulted in the largest reduction in blood pressure. The antihypertensive medications also had heterogeneous effects on the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system activity and cardiac remodeling.

Summary: Atherosclerosis has a complex pathogenesis involving inflammation, lipid metabolism alterations, and endothelial injury. The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) plays a crucial role in the inflammatory response regulation, making it a promising target for atherosclerosis treatment.

Summary: In hypotensive patients on vasopressors, the change in plasma renin concentration is a better predictor of in-hospital mortality than the change in lactate concentration. Plasma renin kinetics may be superior to lactate kinetics in predicting mortality in hypotensive, critically ill patients.

Summary: Atherosclerosis is a disease caused by chronic inflammation and endothelial dysfunction, with up-regulated mediators of inflammation in affected individuals. Oxidative stress, imbalance between antioxidants and oxidants, leads to tissue damage. The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system plays a vital role in vascular disease pathobiology, with angiotensin II causing hypertension and reactive oxygen species production. Blocking this system could potentially reduce inflammatory and thrombotic complications.

Summary: The objective of this study was to characterize monocrotaline-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension in a rat model and analyze the effects of bosentan. The study confirmed the effects of monocrotaline on lungs, heart, and pulmonary arterial pressure. Activation of the alternative pathway of the renin-angiotensin system and modifications of erythrocyte Na,K-ATPase enzyme kinetics were observed. Bosentan exhibited antioxidant effects and beneficial hemodynamic effects in PAH condition.
