Summary: In older adults at high cardiovascular risk, increasing levels of physical activity and adherence to a Mediterranean diet were associated with a lower inflammatory score, which was partly mediated by a reduction in body fat.

Summary: The study investigated the association between different obesity patterns and hypertension risk in a large male population in the US. The results showed that overweight and general obesity, abdominal obesity, and compound obesity were all significantly associated with an increased risk of hypertension. Furthermore, waist circumference was positively correlated with the risk of hypertension.

Summary: This study investigated the associations between anthropometric parameters and cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality among diabetic patients. The results showed that arm circumference (AC) and arm-to-waist ratio (AC/WC) were inversely associated with CVD and all-cause mortality among individuals with diabetes. These anthropometric parameters are important for diabetic patients.

Summary: Using cluster analysis, two profiles of subjects with high-risk obesity were identified. Compared to cluster 1, cluster 2 had a worse profile, characterized by older age, more comorbidities, poorer psychological health, and greater inflammation. This study provides important guidance for interventions targeting obese patients.

Summary: This study found that increasing physical activity and decreasing adiposity can reduce the risk of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease mortality, and cancer mortality, regardless of baseline levels. The beneficial associations of joint changes were primarily driven by physical activity, suggesting that lower mortality risk may be more immediate through physical activity improvements compared to adiposity improvements alone.

Summary: This study found that maintaining or adopting an active lifestyle can reduce all-cause mortality risk in patients with CHD, especially for those who remained active. The results also suggest that the benefits of past activity in reducing CVD mortality risk may be lost if appropriate physical activity is not maintained.

Summary: The study found that temporal PA patterns with lower activity counts were associated with higher BMI, waist circumference, and obesity prevalence, while patterns with higher activity counts were related to lower BMI and WC. This suggests a meaningful link between temporal PA patterns and health status.

Summary: This study investigated the association between waist-calf circumference ratio (WCR) and frailty risk in older adults. The study found a positive association between WCR and frailty risk, as well as a negative association between calf circumference (CC) and frailty risk. The results suggest that a combination of high central fat and low lean body mass may increase the risk of developing frailty.

Summary: This study found that higher waist circumference and lower calf circumference were significantly associated with the incidence of cognitive impairment in older adults. The waist-calf circumference ratio had a relatively stronger association with cognitive impairment. Maintaining higher muscle mass and lower central fat can prevent cognitive impairment.

Summary: This study found that cardiac CT has low sensitivity in screening for PFO (patent foramen ovale) in patients with acute stroke, therefore it is not a suitable method for detecting PFO. For young patients with cryptogenic stroke, additional echocardiography is still needed after cardiac CT as a first-line screening method.

Summary: Tailoring antiplatelet therapy based on CYP2C19 pharmacogenetic testing can improve cardiovascular outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. To evaluate the feasibility of CYP2C19-guided de-escalation of prasugrel/ticagrelor to clopidogrel, a proof-of-concept study was conducted in community pharmacies. The study found that community pharmacies are a suitable location for point-of-care PGx testing and the majority of patients and pharmacists view it as valuable.

Summary: Candida infective endocarditis is a rare and serious condition that is difficult to treat, especially in patients with drug-resistant fungi and comorbidities. Treatment guidelines for these patients are based on limited clinical data due to their rarity. A case of Nakaseomyces glabrata prosthetic valve endocarditis in a patient with congenital heart disease highlights the therapeutic dilemma and the need for novel antifungal drugs and further clinical studies.

Summary: This study evaluated CCTA-based ESS values in coronary arteries without atherosclerosis and identified factors affecting ESS values. The findings showed that ESS was highest in the left anterior descending artery and lower in men compared to women, even after adjusting for lumen diameter. ESS values were also highest in small segments and had a correlation with the distance from the ostium.
