Summary: This study investigated the structure of biogenic iron (Fe) (oxyhydr)oxides and found that they are structurally distinct and more disordered than two-line ferrihydrite (2LFh). The poorly ordered biogenic iron (Fe) (oxyhydr)oxides were intimately mixed with organic matter and exhibited reduced crystallinity compared to 2LFh. Factors such as domain size and incorporation of impurities contributed to the differences in structure between biogenic iron (Fe) (oxyhydr)oxides and 2LFh.

Summary: The study examines the impact of substituting CuO with Fe2O3 on the iron oxidation state and electrical conductivity of lithium borosilicate glass samples. Results indicate that the homogeneity of the glass increases with higher iron concentrations, and the ratios of Fe+2/Fe+3 are influenced by CuO. Moreover, iron ions in the glass samples mainly exist in the form of Fe2O3 in the ferrous state, with more than 7.5% concentration. Additionally, electrical conductivity is found to depend on the oxidation state of copper and the mixed transition metal effect.

Summary: The study investigated iron gluconate with different water content using X-ray diffraction and Mossbauer spectroscopy, revealing a correlation between crystal structure and water content, with complex temperature-dependent variations in unit cell parameters for different structures. Iron in all samples exists in the form of Fe(II) and Fe(III) ions, with varying percentages depending on the hydration level.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the large magnetocaloric effect in LaFe11.35Co0.6Si1.05 alloy. X-ray diffraction and Mossbauer spectroscopy confirmed the coexistence of La(Fe,Si)(13)-type and alpha-Fe(Co,Si) phases. The magnetic entropy change and phase transition were analyzed using thermomagnetic Maxwell relation, Landau theory, and universal scaling curve.

Summary: This study prepared three series of borosilicate glasses, including simple ternary sodium borosilicate glasses, complex borosilicate glasses, and high-level radioactive waste analogue glasses. The results showed that iron exists mainly as Fe3+ in predominantly distorted tetrahedral structures, and it integrates into the borosilicate network preferentially through either the silicate sub-network or the borate sub-network. The concentration of iron does not affect the boron coordination, indicating the presence of competing tetrahedral avoidance hierarchies.

Summary: By using Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, the crystal structure of two FeAl intermetallic compounds and the dynamics of Fe and Al atoms at different temperatures were studied. Significant differences between the two alloys were revealed, likely originating from approaching the stability boundary of the 1-phase for the Fe-Al 72.17 at% alloy.

Summary: The study focused on ultrafast structural dynamics during the photodissociation of carbon monoxide from iron(II)-heme in bovine myoglobin. Experimental and computational results revealed insights into the interplay between nuclear and electronic structural dynamics. Additionally, the observation of protein quake caused by CO dissociation provides important implications for understanding gas transport and protein deligation processes.

Summary: A zinc iron phosphate glass loaded with 5-15 mol% UO3 was prepared by melt quench process. The solubility of UO3 in ZnIP was determined to be below 15 mol%, with separation of UP2O7 compound observed beyond this concentration. Fe(II)/Fe(III) ratio was found to decrease from 0.071 to 0.029, and two types of coordination for U-O and Fe-O were prevalent in the ZnIP glass matrix, while a single chemical environment for Zn-O was observed.

Summary: Composite materials based on NiFe2O4 nanoparticles and polyethylene matrix were synthesized to expand the application area of high-pressure polyethylene. The physical characteristics and distribution of nanoparticles in the matrix were studied, and a percolation threshold within a concentration range of 20% to 30% was identified. Furthermore, the analysis of the electronic and atomic structure of the composite materials showed their suitability as components of electromagnetic compatibility systems.

Summary: Ba3Y2-xErx(BO3)(4) (x = 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.25, 0.3) phosphors were synthesized by crystallization from a melt. The crystal structure of Ba3Y2(BO3)(4) was determined through X-ray diffraction and showed an orthorhombic structure with specific unit cell parameters. The thermal behavior and luminescence properties of Ba3Y2(BO3)(4) doped with Er ions were also studied, indicating the absence of structural changes. The x = 0.1 sample exhibited the highest luminescence intensity.
