Lead (Pb) as other environmental neurotoxicants substances has the capability to interfere with many biochemical events present in cells throughout the body and it can produce a wide spectrum of alterations in many organs and systems. Among that alterations induced by Pb exposure in adults and children those involving motor system dysfunction represent a common public health problem. The review summarizes the sources of lead exposures in both occupational and residential environments and motor deficits induced by chronic Pb exposure taking in account the last literature in the field. We wish to focus on the current state of knowledge concerning the long-lasting neurological effects of Pb in motor functions and to correlate the neurological deficits induced by Pb exposure in animal models with those reported in humans. The great interest in whether exposure to Pb can cause long-term, progressive declines in central nervous system (CNS) function have revealed that Pb exposure is involved in chronic CNS diseases such Parkinson's and poor motor coordination in children. Salivary IL-6 Concentration Is Associated with Frailty Syndrome in Older Individuals

Pablo Gomez-Rubio, Isabel Trapero, Omar Cauli, Cristina Buigues

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between frailty syndrome and IL-6 levels obtained from saliva tests. The results showed a significant positive correlation between salivary IL-6 concentration and frailty score, with significant differences observed for weight loss and low physical activity. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis demonstrated that IL-6 concentration can potentially be used as a biomarker for monitoring the progression of frailty syndrome.

Androstenedione and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone Concentration Predict the Progression of Frailty Syndrome at One Year Follow-Up in Patients with Localized Breast Cancer Treated with Aromatase Inhibitors

Javier Garcia-Sanchez, Mayra Alejandra Mafla-Espana, Maria Dolores Torregrosa, Omar Cauli

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between gonadal hormone concentrations in blood and frailty syndrome, as well as whether these hormone concentrations could predict the progression of frailty syndrome. The results showed that high androstenedione levels and low follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels were significantly associated with the worsening of frailty syndrome. These hormone concentrations could be potential biomarkers to predict the progression of frailty syndrome.
