Summary: Recent evidences have shown that the release of aluminum oxide nanoparticles (Al2O3-NPs) may pose a risk to the environment and cause adverse effects on living organisms. This study investigated the hepatotoxic effects of Al2O3-NPs on developing chicken embryos and cell cultures. The results revealed that exposure to Al2O3-NPs caused abnormal liver histology, increased tissue damage markers, oxidative stress, impaired antioxidant enzyme function, abnormal red blood cell morphology, and enhanced apoptosis. Additionally, novel mechanisms and prevention strategies were explored.

Summary: Carvacrol (CRV) has been shown to modulate cadmium (Cd)-induced toxic effects on liver and kidney tissues by enhancing antioxidant enzymes' activities and reversing changes in inflammatory biomarkers and apoptotic genes. Additionally, CRV treatment reduced Cd content and increased levels of essential minerals in tissues, suggesting it as a promising strategy to protect against Cd-induced oxidative damage, inflammation, and apoptosis.

Summary: T-2 toxin, a type A trichothecene produced by various Fusarium species, is highly toxic and causes severe damage to the liver and other organs. Its contamination is widespread in plants globally, posing a great threat to human and animal health due to its chemical stability and difficulty to remove completely from food and feed. This review summarizes the recent research on the hepatotoxicity of T-2 toxin and discusses its metabolic characteristics, hepatotoxic mechanisms, and potential detoxification strategies.

Summary: Naringenin (NRG), a naturally occurring flavonoid found in citrus species and tomatoes, has various biological activities including antioxidant, antitumor, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiadipogenic, and cardioprotective effects. This study investigated the protective role of NRG against liver and brain toxicity induced by lead acetate in rats. The findings suggest that NRG has potential hepato- and neuroprotective effects against lead acetate toxicity.

Summary: Nanoplastics, widely present in water environments, cause plastic pollution and have adverse effects on humans and various organisms. However, studies on the exposure of freshwater crustaceans to nanoplastics are limited. In this study, Macrobrachium nipponense prawns were exposed to 75 nm polystyrene nanoplastics at different concentrations for a 28-day chronic experiment. The results showed that high concentrations of nanoplastics led to increased hepatopancreas damage and apoptosis-related gene expression. This study provides theoretical support for future aquatic toxicological research.
