Summary: We present a practical, light-mediated perfluoroalkylation method using Langlois' reagent that does not require any photocatalyst or additives. This method allows for easy functionalization of pyridones and related N-heteroarenes such as azaindole. The protocol is straightforward, utilizes readily available materials, and is compatible with both electron-neutral and -rich pyridones.

Summary: The deterioration of water caused by industrial production is a significant problem. This study demonstrates the use of ferric chloride and poly-ferric chloride coupled with polyamidine to enhance coagulation and remove toxic organics. The addition of polyamidine significantly improves the coagulation performance of the iron-based coagulants. The results show that charge neutralization and adsorption-bridging are the main processes for the removal of organics, and the purification performance is enhanced by the higher charge density of polyamidine.

Summary: Pd-catalyzed C-H functionalization reactions of non-directed substrates have emerged as a promising alternative to the use of directing groups. A new type of S,O-ligand has been found to be highly efficient in promoting Pd-catalyzed C-H olefination reactions of non-directed arenes, although its role in the process was unclear. Through various mechanistic tools, it was discovered that C-H activation is the rate-determining step and the S,O-ligand triggers the formation of more reactive Pd cationic species, explaining the observed acceleration of the reaction. These findings provide important insights into the role of the S,O-ligand in promoting Pd-catalyzed C-H functionalization reactions.

Summary: This study examines the influence of ipso substitution on the formation of trihalomethanes (THMs) during water chlorination. It confirms the conversion of C-Br bonds into C-Cl bonds for parabens and salicylates, resulting in the presence of brominated and nonhalogenated precursors, which generate polybrominated THMs. The THM molar yield and bromine incorporation were observed to be higher for brominated precursors compared to nonhalogenated precursors. The impact of ipso substitution on THM formation varies with the structure of the organic precursor.

Summary: This study investigated the release behaviors of short-and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (CPs) from PVC cable sheath under thermal treatment. The release percentages of CPs followed a Gaussian-like curve with increasing temperature. At 80 degrees C, 10 min of heating caused 0.051% of added short-chain CPs and 0.029% of added medium-chain CPs to be released. At 270 degrees C, accumulative release rates of short-chain and medium-chain CPs within 10 min were up to 30% and 14% respectively. The study also evaluated the release risk of CPs from the entire life cycle of PVC products.

Summary: The study utilized Box-Behnken statistical experiment design and response surface methodology to determine the optimal operating conditions for efficient removal of antimony (Sb) species from water using ferric chloride. The results showed that high doses of ferric chloride were effective in achieving maximum removal of both Sb (III) and Sb (V) under optimum pH conditions.

Summary: In this study, dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma was used to enhance the degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) in water. It was found that O2 atmosphere was the most efficient working condition for complete degradation of 2,4-DCP in 40 minutes. The main active species responsible for degradation were O3, .OH, .O2-, and 1O2. DBD/O2 process also showed high efficiency in degrading and mineralizing o-Nitrochlorobenzene (o-NCB) and chlorobenzene (CB). The study proposed three common degradation pathways and demonstrated the potential of DBD/O2 process in treating CACs contaminated soil.

Summary: This study investigated the dry purification of as-grown thin single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with different mean tube-diameters of 0.9 and 1.3 nm by using FeCl3 for the removal of iron catalyst nanoparticles. The results showed that the dry-process can efficiently purify the SWCNTs within a few 10 min, achieving a high purity of more than 95 mass% as carbon content. Additionally, the degradation of thinner SWCNTs with 0.9 nm diameter was observed during the dry purification process, while it was not observed in case of SWCNTs with 1.3 nm diameter.

Summary: A new visible-light-promoted transfer hydrogenation of azobenzenes has been developed, with the reactions proceeding smoothly in methanol at ambient temperature in the presence of B(2)pin(2). Azobenzenes with diverse functional groups were reduced to hydrazobenzenes with a high yield of up to 96%. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that the hydrogen atom comes from the solvent and the transformation occurs via a radical pathway.

Summary: The study investigated the removal of tannic acid (TA)-stabilized CuO nanoparticles using polyaluminum ferric chloride (PAFC) as a coagulant in the coagulation-sedimentation (C/S) process. It was found that stirring speed in the reaction phase significantly affected removal efficiency, while pH and ionic strength (IS) impacted the colloidal stability and removal efficiency of CuO NPs. The addition of organic ligands reversed the surface charge potential and enhanced colloidal stability, leading to destabilization of TA-CuO NPs and reducing the optimal PAFC dosage for removal.

Summary: This study explored the coagulation-flocculation process using ferric chloride coagulant and polyacrylamide k16 co-coagulant for As(V) removal. The effects of various operating variables on removal efficiency were investigated. The results showed that coagulant dosing, co-coagulant dosing, pH, and fast mixing speed had the most significant impact on As(V) removal efficiency.

Summary: The synergy effect of CuCl2 and FeCl3 impregnated into fly ash on mercury removal was investigated, with Cu2+ contributing more than Fe3+. The highest mercury removal efficiency was achieved with a mass ratio of 3:1 between CuCl2 and FeCl3 at temperatures between 140 degrees C and 160 degrees C. Density functional theory calculations showed that the coexistence of Cu and Fe accelerates the charge transfer of Hg0, reducing the energy barrier during removal.

Summary: An integrated green process for the valorization of corn stover was developed using NaCl in GVL/H2O. NaCl enhanced the extraction of hemicellulose and lignin, as well as the degradation of hemicellulose to small molecular products. It also promoted the cleavage of chemical bonds in lignin and decarboxylation reactions, resulting in lower molecular weight oligomers and monophenols. The salt effects of NaCl allowed for in situ separation of liquid products, and the cellulose-rich solid residues were activated to produce high performance activated carbon. The process has great potential for pollution control in industrial processes.

Summary: The metal sodium dispersion method effectively dechlorinated wax samples containing SCCPs, achieving a destruction efficiency of over 99.999%. Variations in the wax's initial concentrations and Na/wax ratios did not impact the results. The main reaction products in the reaction liquid were identified as aliphatic compounds after dechlorination.
