This study has developed a new material for indoor formaldehyde control, room-temperature catalytic oxidation (RCO) and RCO-coated media. In order to optimize the adsorption capacity of RCO material on indoor formaldehyde, four impacting factors, including active/assistant component ratio, ingredient ratio (KMnO4/MnSO4), RCO/GAC ratio, and pH, are investigated for both preparation procedure and performance testing of RCO material and RCO coated media. Results show that the RCO material gets the best mechanical strength (level 5) when the molar ratio of two main ingredients (MnSO4/KMnO4) is 3:2, and the pH in the solution is 7. Results also indicate that with the ratio of 3:7 between RCO material and active carbon appears to get the best adsorption capacity for indoor formaldehyde. RCO-coated media with impregnated 1% of Pt and 5% of Ce is the best regarding the removal efficiency and breakthrough time for formaldehyde.
