In this study, two kinds of amine-based protic ionic liquids (PILs), namely, 2-[2-(dimethylamino)ethoxy] ethanol propionate ([DMEE][CO2Et]) and 3-(dimethylamino)-propanenitrile propionate ([DMAPN][CO2Et]), were introduced into the desulfurization process for the first time. Some important parameters, such as stirring speed, ionic liquid (IL) dosage, initial concentration, etc., were investigated. According to the experiments, the sulfur content in the model oil can be effectively removed from 1600 to about 650 ppm by a single extraction cycle. After five cycles, the sulfur content could reach up to 19 ppm and the deep desulfurization was achieved. Most important, the recycling of PILs was realized by vacuumed distillation. The properties and extraction efficiency of PILs have no change after recycling. At the same time, the extraction mechanisms were probed. The results show that the hydrogen bond formed between the sulfur of dibenzothiophene (DBT) and the active hydrogen of PIL accounts for the high desulfurization efficiencies. This novel process would provide a new route for extraction desulfurization of diesel fuels.

Modification of the thermoelectric performance in Se alloyed CoSb1-xSexS

Wei Huang, Hongyu Zhu, Qingshan Liu, Xubiao Zhou, Shangsheng Li, Meihua Hu, Taichao Su

Summary: It was found that Se alloying can effectively tune the band gap and impurity conductance activation energy of CoSbS, leading to increased carrier concentration and enhanced power factor. The thermal conductivity was suppressed due to mass fluctuation and strain field fluctuation induced by Se alloying. The maximum zT value of 0.22 was achieved for CoSb0.9Se0.1S at 823 K, which is twice that of pristine CoSbS. The research demonstrates that constructing antisite defect of SeSb in CoSbS is an effective route to optimize its thermoelectric performance.

A Study on Monitoring and Supervision of Ship Nitrogen-Oxide Emissions and Fuel-Sulfur-Content Compliance

Zheng Wang, Qianchi Ma, Zhida Zhang, Zichao Li, Cuihong Qin, Junfeng Chen, Chuansheng Peng

Summary: In this study, a model was designed to calculate the nitrogen-oxide-emission intensity of ships and the sulfur content of ship fuels using theoretical deduction from the law of the conservation of mass. The reliability and availability of the derived results were empirically evaluated using measurement data for NOx, SO2, and CO2. A compliance-determination workflow for NOx-emission intensity and fuel-sulfur-content monitoring and supervision in on-voyage ships were proposed. The results showed that the ship fuel's NOx-emission intensity and sulfur content can be evaluated by monitoring the exhaust-gas composition online and used to assist in maritime monitoring and the supervision of pollutant emissions from ships.

Optical characteristics of aerosol and its potential sources over Nam Co in the Tibetan Plateau during Asian summer monsoon period

Jiayun Wang, Xianjie Cao, Mengqi Li, Chenguang Tang, Zhida Zhang, Haotian Zhang, Pengfei Tian, Jiening Liang, Lei Zhang, Jinsen Shi

Summary: This study investigated the aerosol optical properties and potential sources over the Nam Co region. The results showed that the average aerosol optical depth during the observation period was 0.025, with an average black carbon concentration of 37 ng/m3 and an average aerosol number concentration of 129 N/cm3. The diurnal variation and vertical distribution of aerosols were influenced by local meteorological elements. The study found that the summer monsoon winds from South Asia contributed to the black carbon concentration in the Nam Co region, and particles from the Taklimakan Desert resulted in a significant increase in aerosol number concentration. These findings are important for understanding the influence of aerosols on the Tibetan Plateau and regional/global weather and climate.

Cooperative Strategy of Trajectory Tracking and Stability Control for 4WID Autonomous Vehicles Under Extreme Conditions

Zhida Zhang, Ling Zheng, Yinong Li, Shaohua Li, Yixiao Liang

Summary: This paper proposes a novel cooperative strategy for trajectory tracking and stability control of four-wheel independent drive (4WID) autonomous vehicles. An adaptive trajectory tracking controller is designed using the model predictive control (MPC) theory, which modifies the tire cornering stiffness in real-time based on the estimated lateral force. A vehicle stability controller is then designed based on sliding mode control (SMC), considering tire force saturation constraint and relative weight of yaw rate and sideslip angle. The feasibility and adaptability of the proposed method are verified through hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test and CarSim-Simulink co-simulation. An experimental case is presented to demonstrate the realizability of the proposed method.

Direct Synthesis of Esters from Alkylarenes and Carboxylic Acids: The C-H Bond Dehydroesterification

Jin Zhang, Jianghan Cao, Jiabin Zhou, Jie Zhang, Yinglin Zhao, Zhida Zhang, Renhua Liu

Summary: In this study, a new reaction was reported in which the benzyl C-H bonds of alkylarenes were directly esterified by carboxylic acids to produce benzyl esters in high yields. This reaction was catalyzed by Pd nanoparticles on N-doped carbon composites, and no oxidants or hydrogen acceptors were required. The use of readily available alkylarenes as raw materials for benzyl ester synthesis without oxidants is atom- and step-efficient.
