Summary: CO2-based alkyl carbamate ILs were proposed as an alternative solvent for lutein extraction from Chlorella sorokiniana. Complete separation of lutein from ILs was achieved by distillation under mild conditions, and the recyclability of DPCARB was found to be satisfactory after multiple cycles of extraction. The potential of CO2-based alkyl carbamate ILs in lutein extraction is promising due to their recyclability, which helps reduce environmental impact and operating costs.

Summary: Mixtures of trihexylamine and cyclic carboxylic acids were used as solvents for extracting zinc salts from water. The choice of zinc salt anions represented a range of solvation properties, and their influence on extraction was investigated. Small-angle x-ray scattering was used to study the liquid structure. The results showed that extraction was strongly affected by the Hofmeister effect, but the local liquid structure was not sensitive to the solvation properties of the anions. Unlike similar studies, the strength of the Hofmeister effect did not change with the composition of the mixtures. (c) 2023 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Summary: This research developed low-cost proton-conducting electrolytes for fuel cells operating at high temperatures by preparing two room temperature protic ionic liquids (PILs), IM-DBP and IM-BEHP. The synthesized PILs were optimized using density functional theory and showed hydrogen bonding between the cation and anion. Both PILs exhibited low glass transition temperatures, high thermal degradation points, and viscosity that decreased with increasing temperature. The ionic conductivity of the PILs reached the desired level above 140 degrees C. The obtained results suggest that imidazolium dialkyl phosphates can be used as proton conducting electrolytes for medium temperature fuel cell applications.

Summary: Protic ionic liquids (PILs) are efficient pretreatment agents for lignocellulosic biomass deconstruction to produce ethanol. Optimal conditions for pretreatment include 2 hours, 150 degrees Celsius, 15% solids loading, and 20% water content. The addition of hemicellulases during saccharification can improve hemicellulose yield, while the use of ethanol and other antisolvents does not increase sugar yields.

Summary: The goal of this study was to develop new protic ionic liquids (PILs) as additives for lubrication of micro and nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS and NEMS). Ten PILs with different combinations of cations such as [MIMH], [4-picH], [PyrH], [DBUH], and [TMGH], and anions such as [HSO4] and [MeSO3] were tested as additives in polyethylene glycol (PEG200) to lubricate steel/silicon and silicon/silicon contacts. The best performing additive was found to be [4-picH][HSO4], which formed a protective film on the silicon surface, resulting in a 15-fold reduction in wear compared to PEG200 alone.

Summary: A series of protic amine carboxylic acid ion liquids are used as precursor additives to regulate the crystal growth and phase transition of alpha-FAPbI(3), resulting in the optimization of the phase transition process. The functional groups of carboxyl and ammonium passivate lead ions, vacancies, and organic vacancies, eliminating nonradiative recombination. The small-area devices incorporated with methylammonium butyrate (MAB) and n-butylammonium formate (BAFa) additives achieved champion efficiencies of 25.10% and 24.52%, respectively, while large-area modules achieved PCEs of 21.26% and 19.27% for MAB and BAFa additives, demonstrating the potential for commercializing large-area perovskite solar cells.

Summary: It was found that Se alloying can effectively tune the band gap and impurity conductance activation energy of CoSbS, leading to increased carrier concentration and enhanced power factor. The thermal conductivity was suppressed due to mass fluctuation and strain field fluctuation induced by Se alloying. The maximum zT value of 0.22 was achieved for CoSb0.9Se0.1S at 823 K, which is twice that of pristine CoSbS. The research demonstrates that constructing antisite defect of SeSb in CoSbS is an effective route to optimize its thermoelectric performance.

Summary: In this study, a model was designed to calculate the nitrogen-oxide-emission intensity of ships and the sulfur content of ship fuels using theoretical deduction from the law of the conservation of mass. The reliability and availability of the derived results were empirically evaluated using measurement data for NOx, SO2, and CO2. A compliance-determination workflow for NOx-emission intensity and fuel-sulfur-content monitoring and supervision in on-voyage ships were proposed. The results showed that the ship fuel's NOx-emission intensity and sulfur content can be evaluated by monitoring the exhaust-gas composition online and used to assist in maritime monitoring and the supervision of pollutant emissions from ships.

Summary: This study investigated the aerosol optical properties and potential sources over the Nam Co region. The results showed that the average aerosol optical depth during the observation period was 0.025, with an average black carbon concentration of 37 ng/m3 and an average aerosol number concentration of 129 N/cm3. The diurnal variation and vertical distribution of aerosols were influenced by local meteorological elements. The study found that the summer monsoon winds from South Asia contributed to the black carbon concentration in the Nam Co region, and particles from the Taklimakan Desert resulted in a significant increase in aerosol number concentration. These findings are important for understanding the influence of aerosols on the Tibetan Plateau and regional/global weather and climate.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel cooperative strategy for trajectory tracking and stability control of four-wheel independent drive (4WID) autonomous vehicles. An adaptive trajectory tracking controller is designed using the model predictive control (MPC) theory, which modifies the tire cornering stiffness in real-time based on the estimated lateral force. A vehicle stability controller is then designed based on sliding mode control (SMC), considering tire force saturation constraint and relative weight of yaw rate and sideslip angle. The feasibility and adaptability of the proposed method are verified through hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test and CarSim-Simulink co-simulation. An experimental case is presented to demonstrate the realizability of the proposed method.
