Summary: This prospective study aimed to assess the incidence of colonoscopy-related perforation and analyze clinical factors associated with poor outcomes. The incidence rate of colonoscopy-related perforation was 0.66/1000, with higher rates in therapeutic colonoscopy. Factors such as diagnostic colonoscopy, abdominal rebound tenderness, sigmoid colon location, delayed recognition, and abdominal tenderness were associated with poor clinical outcomes.

Summary: Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are protective proteins that play a role in cell stress response. They have been found to protect cells and organs, especially the cardiovascular system, against harmful conditions. Recent research has focused on the role of HSPs in the remodeling of atrial fibrillation (AF), a common arrhythmia that can be life-threatening.

Summary: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects 10-14% of the global population, and kidney fibrosis is a hallmark manifestation of progressive CKD. However, there are currently no antifibrotic therapies available for CKD. Understanding the complex interplay between injured parenchyma and non-parenchymal cell lineages in the fibrotic niche, as well as the role of genetics and epigenetics, has shed light on the mechanisms of kidney fibrosis. Recent advancements in single-cell technology have helped answer key questions about profibrotic renal tubules, myofibroblast origins, immune cell involvement, and cell communication. Additionally, the reversible nature of epigenetic changes offers potential therapeutic strategies to halt or reverse kidney fibrosis. Developing biomarkers and antifibrotic treatments for CKD are also important areas of research.

Summary: Neutrophil elastase (NE) is a major protease in neutrophils and plays multiple roles in inflammation, microbial killing, tumor growth regulation, and disease development. Sivelestat, a specific NE inhibitor, shows promise in clinical applications, particularly in the treatment of COVID-19. This review highlights the pathophysiological processes associated with NE and explores the potential clinical applications of sivelestat.

Summary: There has been significant progress in paediatric gastroenterology, including diagnostic techniques and management strategies, in the last decade. However, there is limited literature on the utility and outcomes of paediatric GI endoscopy in the Asia-Pacific region. Understanding the diagnostic value of paediatric GI endoscopy is crucial, particularly for inflammatory bowel disease and eosinophilic GI disease. Contextualizing the diagnostic value within the region-specific prevalence of paediatric GI diseases is important. Advanced endoscopic techniques and state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics are expected to play a bigger role in paediatric gastroenterology in the future. It is necessary for current and future paediatric endoscopists to adhere to minimum practice standards and stay updated with the evolving trends in endoscopy.

Summary: The study evaluated clinicopathological characteristics and risk factors for developing (advanced) neoplasia (AN) in Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) survivors who had undergone abdominal radiotherapy and/or procarbazine treatment. Colorectal neoplasia in HL survivors differs from average-risk controls, with AN primarily classified based on polyp size (>=10 mm) and longer follow-up between HL diagnosis and colonoscopy associated with a higher prevalence of AN.

Summary: This study found that in low-and lower-middle-income countries, the health sector priorities and interventions to prevent and manage noncommunicable diseases and injuries have primarily adopted elements of the World Health Organization Global Action Plan for NCDs 2013-2020. However, there have been limited efforts to prioritize among conditions and health-sector interventions for NCDIs based on local epidemiology and contextually relevant risk factors in these countries, or to consider the equitable distribution of health outcomes in interventions.

Summary: PD-L1 expression in gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM) tissues is associated with PD-L1 positive G-cells. Gastric G-cells appear to be protected from H. pylori-induced immune destruction by expressing PD-L1. GIM itself does not express PD-L1 and is unlikely to evade immunosurveillance through PD-L1 expression.
