A new stochastic optimization method, named invasive weed optimization, has been used in the electromagnetic community and shows high performance. In this article, it is used to optimize the parameters of the Yagi-Uda antenna for the highest directivity. As is known, there is no analytical formula for the Yagi-Uda antenna design; a full-wave solver is employed to calculate the directivity of the Yagi-Uda antenna. Then invasive weed optimization is integrated with the full-wave solver to optimize the variable parameters of the Yagi-Uda antenna, aiming to get the highest directivity. Compared with particle swarm optimization, higher directivity is achieved with a more compact aperture size. Two numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
