Summary: The investigation revealed that the failure of a heavily cracked geothermal water convection tube was caused by stress corrosion cracking induced by chloride in the service environment and sensitization of the matrix. Additionally, residual stress arising from the manufacturing process also promoted the failure process.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa's outward extracellular electron transfer (EET) on the accelerated corrosion of 304 stainless steel. The biofilm of P. aeruginosa accelerated pitting corrosion when there was less NO3- available as an electron acceptor. The results from ICP-MS and XPS showed that P. aeruginosa promoted the bio-reductive dissolution of iron oxides in the passive film of stainless steel. Using in situ scanning electrochemical microscopy, a relationship was established between the accelerated deterioration of the passive film and the EET process mediated by the conversion of the redox states of pyocyanin secreted by P. aeruginosa.

Summary: Geobacter sulfurreducens transports respiratory electrons over micrometers through nanowires composed of polymerized cytochrome OmcS. Individual nanowires exhibit hopping conductance and show a significant increase in their intrinsic conductance upon cooling. The cooling effect is caused by the rearrangement of hydrogen bonding networks in the nanowires, resulting in a temperature-sensitive switch for charge transport controlled by the protein surrounding the hemes.

Summary: The interactions between corrosion and wear in metallic orthodontic brackets-archwires depend on the conditions during orthodontic therapy. The simultaneous electrochemical attack and mechanical sliding can damage the protective surface film. The sensitivity of AISI 304 L stainless steel used in orthodontics to tribocorrosive behavior is demonstrated through friction corrosion experiments.

Summary: A stress corrosion cracking (SCC) monitoring indicator based on the acoustic emission (AE) technique is proposed for real-time detection and monitoring of SCC initiation in stainless steel pipes used in nuclear power plants. The indicator is developed by establishing a non-crack AE signal criterion and investigating the characteristics of AE signals responsible for cracking. The performance of the indicator is evaluated by detecting SCC in real time, and the causes of SCC propagation are analyzed using scanning electron microscopy.

Summary: The study of mathematical modeling of DIET and MIET in anaerobic ecosystems offers new strategies for improving biotechnologies. While the modeling of DIET kinetics is still in its early stages, recent concepts introduced for modeling electroactive biofilms should be further developed. DIET shows potential to increase IET rates compared to H 2 -MIET, but additional characterizations of biological components supporting IET are needed to enhance predictions.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of rainwater corrosion on the tribological properties of 304 stainless steel. The results show that rainwater has a corrosive effect on the surface of 304 stainless steel, increasing the content of N and S elements, as well as the hardness, surface roughness, and wettability. The interfacial tribological properties are also affected, with a small friction coefficient and decreased surface scratch in dry friction, and improved interfacial tribological properties with a small friction coefficient in lubricated conditions.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of exogenous pyocyanin on the microbiologically influenced corrosion of 304 stainless steel by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The results showed that exogenous pyocyanin promoted the electron transfer efficiency between the P. aeruginosa biofilm and the stainless steel surface, resulting in more severe pitting corrosion.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of cutting parameters on the microstructure and corrosion behavior of 304 stainless steel in simulated primary water. The results show that different cutting parameters can cause a gradient microstructure on the surface, with a nanocrystallized layer on top and deformation band structures underneath. The depth of the deformation zone is mainly affected by the feed rate, cutting depth, and cutting speed. The nanocrystallized surface exhibits the lowest general corrosion rate, but once corrosion penetrates this layer, preferential corrosion occurs along deformation bands and grain boundaries leading to a significant increase in corrosion rate in high-temperature pressurized water.

Summary: The corrosion behaviors of 304 stainless steel in vaporized boric acid and high-temperature boric acid solution were investigated. Vaporized boric acid could cause droplet-orientated scabs on the metal surfaces, whereas boric acid in solution only caused uniform corrosion. Prolonged exposure or increased boric acid concentrations accelerated localized corrosion.

Summary: The microstructure and corrosion performance of LPBF and TM 304 L SS after 2 MeV proton irradiation at 360 degrees C were investigated. Irradiation-induced dislocation loops were observed in both LPBF and TM 304 L SS. A comparison analysis of the oxide scales formed on proton irradiated LPBF and TM 304 L SS revealed that the oxide film thickness of TM 304 L SS is approximately twice that of the LPBF 304 L SS due to the irradiation-induced defects.

Summary: The study demonstrates that utilizing three-dimensional microbial anodes can increase current generation and COD removal rate simultaneously, and further improvements can be achieved by designing 3D anode geometrical arrangements. Replacing a monolithic 3D graphite anode with plates stacked on top of each other can provide a 20% gain. Moreover, switching from a two-compartment MEC to a three-compartment MEC design can further optimize hydrogen production performance by an additional 20%.
