Summary: Theoretical and electrochemical behavior of the herbicide fluometuron was investigated using a glassy carbon electrode for the first time. The study found that fluometuron exhibited an irreversible profile with a well-defined anodic peak through cyclic voltammetry. The presence of defects on the electrode surface induced the dissociation and adsorption of fluometuron, affecting the electroanalysis. Differential pulse voltammetry was successfully employed for the determination of fluometuron under optimized conditions.

Summary: A simple and sensitive square wave voltammetric procedure was developed for the determination of acemetacin (ACM) at graphite flake paste electrode (GFPE) and glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The method showed wide linear range for ACM concentration and was successfully applied for ACM determination in pharmaceuticals and spiked urine with satisfying recoveries. The electrochemical oxidation of ACM was found to be an irreversible process controlled by mixed nature of the mass transfer process.

Summary: A novel electrochemical assay for determining 17-beta-estradiol (E2) was proposed in this study. By modifying a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with a nanocomposite consisting of alpha-Fe2O3 nanoparticles supported on carbon nanotubes (CNTs), the detection of E2 was enhanced and electrode surface fouling was prevented. The optimized experimental conditions allowed for accurate and fast determination of E2 in a wide concentration range.

Summary: This study reports the voltammetric behavior and determination of clonidine (CLO) using an unmodified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for the first time. CLO exhibited only an irreversible oxidation process on the GCE at pH 12 (vs Ag/AgCl). The determination of CLO was optimized in 0.1 mol L-1 phosphate buffer solution at pH 12.0 using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), providing a good linear range and low limit of detection for quality control of this drug in pharmaceutical samples. The proposed GCE-DPV method demonstrated good accuracy and analytical performance for CLO determination in pharmaceutical samples, offering a faster, simpler, and lower-cost alternative for quality control compared to other methods.

Summary: This article critically evaluates the literature on the use of the Langmuir isotherm in inhibitor research. The validity of the Langmuir isotherm has been challenged, particularly by Walczak et al. (2019), leading to its rejection by some researchers. Imposing limitations on the Langmuir isotherm would affect heterogeneous kinetics, impedance interpretation, and other transient techniques. This discussion paper provides a more in-depth analysis of these aspects.

Summary: This research examined the corrosion inhibition effect of three extracts from soybean meal and a soybean protein commercial sample on mild steel, using mass loss tests, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP). The soybean meal extracts' anti-corrosive properties were investigated by normalizing the peptide/protein amount. The inhibitors were characterized chemically and the surface of mild steel was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that all inhibitors showed the same inhibition efficiency when the normalization in peptide/protein amount was performed, indicating that proteins/peptides are responsible for inhibiting corrosion. For example, at 100 mg L-1 in protein content, the inhibition efficiency was 84% and 82% from EIS and PDP results, and 89% and 93-94% after 2 and 24 h immersion time, respectively, from mass loss measurements. Polarization curves indicated that all inhibitors behave as a mixed-type inhibitor, particularly for the cathodic branch. SEM results suggested that all extracts promoted a protective action against corrosion of the mild steel in H2SO4 solution.
