Summary: This study investigated the differential mechanisms of how MnO2 NPs and MnSO4 affect hepatic lipid metabolism in a freshwater fish. MnO2 NPs caused liver injury, increased hepatic lipid accumulation, and induced lipotoxicity, while up-regulating the expression of de novo lipogenic genes. In addition, MnO2 NPs downregulated the expression of microRNAs involved in the regulation of lipid metabolism. Mechanistically, miR-92a-acsl3-dependent de novo lipogenesis contributed to lipid accumulation and lipotoxicity induced by MnO2 NPs.

Summary: The study assessed the effects of different dietary selenium sources on the meat quality and antioxidant capacity of yellow catfish. The results showed that selenium yeast supplementation improved muscle firmness and increased the content of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the muscles. Additionally, selenium yeast and selenium-enriched Spirulina platensis supplementation improved hepatic glutathione peroxidase activity and decreased hepatic malondialdehyde content.

Summary: This study determined the transcriptional regulation of PI3KC3 by three transcription factors (PPAR gamma, PPAR alpha, and STAT3) and the potential role of PI3KC3 in mediating lipid accumulation in yellow catfish Pelteobagrus fulvidraco. The findings suggest that PPAR alpha and PPAR gamma directly regulate the transcription inactivation of pi3kc3, and fatty acid treatment significantly affects the expression and methylation level of PI3KC3 in yellow catfish hepatocytes.

Summary: The study found that ammonia accumulated in the intestine and muscle, disrupted protein digestive enzyme function, altered amino acid composition in muscle, and increased the activities of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase in muscle. Additionally, ammonia stress reduced diversity, richness, and altered microbiota structure in the intestine, with an increase in the abundance of Fusobacteria and beneficial microbiota Cetobacterium.

Summary: This study investigated the adverse effects of copper sulphate on yellow catfish and found that it induced oxidative stress, immunosuppression, and dysbiosis in the gill microbiota. The exposure to copper sulphate led to increased levels of oxidative stress biomarkers and altered expression of immune-related genes. Additionally, the composition of the gill microbiota was significantly altered, with a decrease in certain bacteria species and an increase in others. These findings emphasize the importance of sustainable management practices and alternative therapies to mitigate the harmful effects of copper sulphate in aquaculture.

Summary: Ammonia toxicity varies among different fish species, with yellow catfish exhibiting a response to ammonia detoxification through inhibition of argininosuccinate synthase (ASS) which can lead to disruptions in the urea cycle. In cases where the urea cycle is inhibited, fish can enhance their detoxification capacity by improving glutamine synthesis. Arginase plays a significant role in ammonia detoxification in yellow catfish.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of dissolved oxygen and feeding status on the blood biochemistry and metabolism of yellow catfish. The results showed that both hypoxia and feeding caused short-term changes in the blood parameters and metabolic responses of yellow catfish, and the metabolic responses were more intense in the post-feeding hypoxia group.

Summary: During dam discharging period, high-speed water aeration results in the supersaturation of total dissolved gas (TDG) in downstream water, causing gas bubble disease (GBD) in fish. However, the molecular mechanism underlying the physiological effect of TDG supersaturation on fish remains poorly understood. This study comprehensively investigated the impact of TDG supersaturation on the yellow catfish at different levels, revealing severe physiological damage and the enhancement of heat shock proteins, immune functions, and energy metabolic pathways as defense mechanisms.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of selenium and oxidized fish oil on intestinal lipid metabolism and antioxidant responses in yellow catfish. The results showed that selenium supplementation reduced intestinal tissue damage and lipid accumulation induced by oxidized fish oils. Additionally, selenium alleviated oxidative stress and affected the expression of intestinal selenoproteins. Mechanistically, selenium and oxidized eicosapentaenoic acid influenced glutathione content by affecting the DNA binding ability of activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3) to the slc7a11 promoter.

Summary: This study explores the association between oxidative stress and ferroptosis under ammonia stress in fish, as well as mitigation measures. The results show that ammonia poisoning leads to decreased survival rates, elevated blood ammonia levels, activation of ferroptosis and oxidative stress. Additionally, quercetin has been found to protect macrophages against ammonia-induced ferroptosis in vitro.
