Summary: Among pregnant adolescents in an urban inner city, those aged <= 15 years have worse perinatal outcomes compared to older adolescents (16-19 years old) and older parents (20-34 years old), including higher rates of preterm birth and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Young adolescent parents also have a higher prevalence of obesity, which is associated with increased rates of severe preeclampsia and cesarean delivery compared to adolescents without obesity.

Summary: Most dietary interventions for childhood obesity prevention focus on person-based educational approaches and show inconsistent effects on changing children's body mass index. Few interventions address environmental changes and macro policy changes, and their sustainability over time remains unclear.

Summary: Adolescence is a crucial period characterized by physical, cognitive, and emotional growth. Despite existing nutritional problems and the obesity epidemic, intervention and policy research on adolescent growth and nutrition has been overlooked. Effective interventions and policies need to be multidisciplinary, supported by data standardization and coordination, and involve intergenerational partnerships with young people.

Summary: This study reviewed the contribution of the EPIC study to the understanding of the impact of diet, alcohol, body-mass index (BMI), and physical activity on cancer mortality. It identified several dietary factors, physical activity, and healthy lifestyle recommendations that can reduce the risk of cancer mortality, while poor diet quality and obesity were found to increase this risk. The EPIC study provides valuable information on diet and lifestyle factors for cancer mortality prevention.

Summary: This study found that better verbal memory, visuoconstructive praxis, and attention, as well as inhibition at baseline were associated with a higher likelihood of achieving at least 8% weight loss after 3 years of following a MedDiet. Higher adherence to er-MedDiet was associated with improvements in memory, and women had lower rates of change in global cognition, physical activity, and quality of life. Improvements in memory were correlated with reductions in BMI and improvements in physical activity.

Summary: To prevent childhood obesity, promoting breastfeeding, reducing protein content in formulated milks, and focusing on the diet of children in the first 12-24 months are crucial. Involving families and schools in promoting physical activity and healthy eating, as well as taking a multidimensional approach to interventions, are also important for increasing effectiveness in preventing childhood obesity.

Summary: The study assessed the acceptability and utility of an online pediatric-adapted liking survey (PALS) and tailored messages among children receiving non-urgent care in a pediatric emergency department. Findings showed that most children and parents found the PALS easy to complete and reported the tailored messages to be helpful, regardless of the child's weight or family's food security status.

Summary: This study aims to describe and discuss the methods used in economic evaluations of dietary interventions in children and adolescents, including long-term modeling. The study found variability in predicting, measuring, and valuing long-term benefits from short-term clinical outcomes in childhood. Key recommendations for future economic evaluations include considering weight regain and diminishing intervention effects in projections, exploring wider intervention benefits beyond quality-of-life outcomes, and including parental or caregiver opportunity costs.

Summary: Adolescence is a crucial period that often lacks attention and care compared to other life stages. Poor nutrition is commonly observed among adolescents, both in Ireland and globally, and is influenced by various factors including individual, social, and environmental determinants. This can lead to immediate and long-term health consequences, such as micronutrient deficiencies and increased risk of obesity and cardiometabolic diseases. Interventions during adolescence can effectively protect youth's health and promote healthier behaviors. This review provides an overview of the nutritional characteristics of adolescents, the causes and consequences of poor nutrition, and potential opportunities for intervention, with a focus on evidence from Ireland.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a complex multilevel, multimodal intervention based on the chronic care model for controlling cardiovascular risk factors among stroke survivors. The study did not find additional improvements in vascular risk factors beyond usual care with the intervention, suggesting further studies may consider modifications to enhance implementation and participant engagement.
