Summary: Using sediment cores, past environmental impacts related to eutrophication, erosion, and metal contamination in a subtropical reservoir were studied. Nutrient levels, sedimentation rates, and metal flows were found to be associated with anthropic activities, leading to changes in phytoplankton community composition and organic matter levels. Despite increased eutrophication and erosion from human activities, no signs of metal contamination were observed in the reservoir.

Summary: Reservoir construction can impact downstream flow and sediment transport, leading to adjustments in the morphodynamics of a river, especially riverbed instability. Through a study on the Wuhan reach of the Yangtze River, it was found that cumulative erosion has significantly increased, resulting in changes in channel stability. Influenced by the Coriolis force, the lateral migrate intensity of the thalweg has also increased.

Summary: The study analyzed the potential and emergent environmental fragility of the Lobo Reservoir Drainage Basin in southeastern Brazil, recommending environmental zoning based on its assessment. The basin was primarily classified as medium emergent environmental fragility, with around half suitable for anthropic use, 28.5% prioritized for environmental conservation, and 16% identified as priority areas for conservation/restoration. The methodology proposed in the study provides a low cost, flexible, and easy to use method for land use planning, with the potential for replication and customization in other regions.

Summary: Based on field data, this study analyzes the characteristics of river discharge, the effect of river discharge on riverbed erosion and sedimentation, and the feedback effect of riverbed erosion and sedimentation on the tide and tidal bore in the Qiantang River. The results show that river discharge in the Qiantang River exhibits noticeable inter-annual and seasonal variations. The construction of Xin'anjiang Reservoir has led to a more uniform seasonal distribution of river discharge. River discharge has a major impact on erosion and sedimentation in the Zhakou to Yanguan reach. The study establishes relationships between riverbed volume, mean and maximum river discharge during the flood season, and riverbed volume before the flood season. Riverbed erosion leads to a decrease in low tide level, amplifies the tidal range, and enhances the tidal bore.

Summary: The study found that sedimentation in the Three Gorges Reservoir is mainly influenced by the sediment load flowing into the reservoir, water depth in front of the dam, and runoff discharge. The sediment from smaller tributaries, which has been ignored in previous studies, accounted for approximately 10.8% of the total sediment. The average annual sediment trapping efficiency was 78.5% during the period of 2003-2018.

Summary: The study focuses on how to improve hydrodynamic conditions in the Three Gorges Reservoir area to mitigate sedimentation and phosphorus retention. The tide-type operation method is proposed and it is found to be effective in reducing sedimentation and TP retention.

Summary: The study focused on the asynchronous propagation characteristics of flood and sediment peaks downstream in the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) by using a 3D numerical model. The model accurately reproduced the processes of flood propagation and sediment transport during the 2013 flood season, with the horizontal grid having a greater influence on the results than the vertical grid. The impounded level in the TGR had a significant impact on the occurrence time and magnitude of the sediment peak, with the time of sediment peak lagging behind flood peak increasing as the impounded level increased.

Summary: This study investigates the spatio-temporal changes in the downstream river bed during a dam construction and analyzes the impacts on erosion-accumulation dynamics caused during the establishment of the dam. The results show that accumulation and scouring occurred in different seasons in the upstream and downstream areas of the dam, respectively. After the dam excavation was over, the river bed reached an equilibrium condition with a slight accumulation.

Summary: After the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, downstream areas experienced severe scouring and changes in sediment load and channel morphology. However, with the stabilization of the riverbed, the spawning grounds of Chinese sturgeon might be preserved.

Summary: The study observes the nearshore significant wave height (SWH) in the Three Gorges Reservoir using RBRvirtuoso Dwave-pressure-based wave gauges. It analyzes the factors affecting SWH under different water levels, in the main and tributary streams, and shoreline sections. The study finds that SWH increases with higher water levels, and the average SWH in the mainstream is larger than in the tributaries. Fluctuations in water level, shipping activities, and other factors significantly impact the alteration of nearshore SWH, which can lead to changes in shoreline erosion patterns and environmental pollution.

Summary: The study found that the general populace has a lack of understanding about environmental literacy, with the greatest impact on plant cover in the midstream and the least impact on regeneration in the upstream. Environmental literacy of local residents has the most influence on ENIs in the downstream, while the environmental literacy of government personnel has the greatest correlations with ENIs in the midstream.

Summary: The construction of large dams brings various benefits but may also have negative impacts on sediment transport and channel dynamics adjustments. Recent water and soil conservation projects have caused sediment retention in upstream reservoirs like the Three Gorges Reservoir, leading to unexpected sedimentation patterns. Studies show that sediment transport decreased after the construction of the Three Gorges Project, with sedimentation slowing down significantly after 2013 and showing seasonal characteristics.

Summary: An adaptive hybrid machine learning model is proposed in this study for forecasting the step-like displacements of reservoir colluvial landslides. The model is established and integrated through candidate factor determination, decomposition of displacement and factors, sensitivity analysis, and model optimization. The performance of the model is verified using the Baishuihe landslide as an example, and the results indicate good performance in displacement prediction.
