Summary: An expeditious and highly efficient methodology for the synthesis of pyrazolopyranopyrimidine under aqueous conditions using guanidine hydrochloride as a catalyst is reported. The one-pot multicomponent synthesis from aryl/heterocyclic aldehyde, ethyl acetoacetate, barbituric acid, and hydrazine hydrate yields the final compound in moderate to excellent yield. The guanidine hydrochloride shows recyclability (up to 4 cycles), safety, low cost, and wide stability profile, making it an ideal catalyst. The current protocol offers advantages such as environmentally benign nature, shorter reaction time, high yield, simple work-up procedure, broad substrate tolerance, and absence of hazardous organic solvent.

Summary: The development of advanced multifunctional wound dressings remains a major challenge. In this study, a novel multilayer electrospun nanofibers wound dressing based on diethylenetriamine (DETA) functionalized polyacrylonitrile (PAN), TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) coating, and bioderived gelatin (Gel) was developed. The ML PAN-DETA-Ct-Gel membrane showed good surface roughness, porosity, and better wettability, and exhibited good cell morphology, proliferation, viability, and antibacterial activity.

Summary: This study investigates the enhancing potential of various amines on MSA-driven nucleation and identifies guanidino-containing compounds as the most potent enhancers. A robust quantitative structure-activity relationship model is developed to predict the enhancing potential of other amines. The findings provide a foundation for comprehensively evaluating the contribution of atmospheric amines to MSA-driven nucleation.

Summary: The study describes the tyrosinase-like activity of hybrid guanidine-stabilized bis(mu-oxido) dicopper(III) complexes. Aromatic hybrid guanidine amine ligands with varying amine donor function were developed and their copper(I) complexes were analyzed for their ability to activate dioxygen. The resulting bis(mu-oxido) species showed remarkable activity in catalytic oxygenation reactions of polycyclic aromatic alcohols, while maintaining selectivity in the hydroxylation reactions of challenging phenolic substrates.

Summary: This study successfully designed and prepared waterborne polyurethane coatings with anti-fouling and antibacterial properties. The incorporation of fluoroalkyl chains enhanced the mechanical properties of the material, while the addition of poly-hexamethylene guanidine imparted antibacterial abilities. Using this waterborne polyurethane coating as a topcoat not only reduced the friction coefficient of the surface, but also achieved anti-inorganic fouling and antibacterial properties.

Summary: The choice of effective biocides for routine hospital practice should consider their impact on the local resistome and antibiotic resistance gene transfer. This study investigated the effects of different biocides on the release of extracellular DNA (eDNA) from biofilms of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. The results showed that most biocides caused substantial eDNA release, while PHMG-Cl was able to block biofilm development and inactivate DNA on surfaces.
