Summary: This study aimed to investigate functional impairment and its relationship to illness severity in patients with mood or anxiety disorders. The results showed that there was a significant improvement in functional impairment after 1 year, and the level of impairment was correlated with employment status and severity of clinical symptoms.

Summary: This study provides an overview of environmental factors associated with participation and participation-related constructs in children and youth with cerebral palsy. While environmental factors are found to be associated with participation attendance and activity competence in children with CP, there is a lack of research of environmental factors in relation to both participation involvement and other participation-related constructs.

Summary: The research explored the impact of the National Disability Insurance Scheme on participation opportunities for people with disability in Australia. Stakeholder accounts revealed changes that could potentially eliminate participation barriers. Some participants viewed changes as obstructing equitable and quality professional practice, and the study highlighted potential opportunities to address these tensions.

Summary: The study investigated the ICF domains covered by the Tinnitus Questionnaire and Tinnitus Functional Index, finding that TFI covered more categories of activity and participation while TQ focused on body functions. Patients with somatic tinnitus reported severe impairments in mental functions, sensory functions, pain, and sleep functions, with limitations in focusing attention. Somatic patients in the study reported impairments and disabilities in all covered domains, especially in onset of sleep and sound detection.

Summary: The study aimed to understand functional status distribution and factors associated with changes in functional status and social participation in people with depression using two-year follow-up data. Results showed decline in all dimensions of WHODAS 2.0 over two years, especially in cognition, household activities, social participation, and total score. Older age groups had poorer recovery in cognition, social interaction, and household activities. Residence in suburban areas was associated with poorer recovery in cognition, self-care, and overall function compared to rural and urban areas. Employment status was strongly linked to recovery in household activities, social participation, and overall function.

Summary: This review focuses on workers with developmental dyslexia and their factors affecting work participation are mainly environmental and personal, dispersed across different ICF categories. The results indicate the relevance of the biopsychosocial model in addressing issues for individuals with disabilities in the workplace.

Summary: Participation is crucial for a child's well-being, but children with disabilities may face limitations. This study examined the association between participation of disabled children and various factors. The results showed that a significant percentage of disabled children had limited participation in home, school, and community activities. Child and family factors were found to significantly influence participation in different settings.

Summary: The study found that SMWC overlaps with two work-related core sets on 47 categories. Compared to work-related core sets, the Body Functions and Activities and Participation are well represented in the new instrument, while the Environmental factors component is under-represented. Compared to disease-specific core sets, items related to social and domestic environmental factors are under-represented, but SMWC includes work-related factors complementary to the ICF.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the persistent symptoms among COVID-19 survivors and identify factors associated with post-COVID-19 syndrome. The study found a high frequency of persistent symptoms, including pain, fatigue, and posttraumatic stress disorder, which were associated with the severity of COVID-19, individual characteristics, and environmental factors. These findings suggest that most COVID-19 recovering patients will require post-discharge care and pose an additional burden to healthcare systems.

Summary: The global mortality rate for youth aged 15-24 showed a decreasing trend from 1990 to 2019, with an increase in deaths in sub-Saharan Africa by 20.8%. The risk of death for youth is higher than that for children under 5 years old. Efforts to reduce youth mortality need to be accelerated, particularly with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa.

Summary: The analysis of non-fatal health loss among children and adolescents from 2000 to 2016 showed limited progress in reducing the global burden, with important variations between sexes and regions. Iron-deficiency anaemia and skin diseases were identified as important causes of YLDs globally, while specific causes differed between age groups and regions, highlighting the need for context-specific interventions tailored for each demographic group.

Summary: Based on the UN IGME database, we estimated the levels and trends in under-5 mortality for the world and individual countries from 1990 to 2019. As of 2019, 122 countries have achieved the SDG target on under-5 mortality, while 20 countries are on track to achieve the target by 2030 and 53 countries need to accelerate progress to meet the target.
