Summary: This study aimed to determine the mortality rate and risk factors, as well as etiology, among inpatients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP), and healthcare-associated pneumonia (HCAP). The results showed that gram-negative pathogens accounted for a significant proportion of pneumonia cases, with P. aeruginosa being the most common pathogen. HAP carried a higher risk of mortality compared to CAP, while individual factors such as cardiomyopathy, smoking, and insulin use were associated with increased mortality risk.

Summary: The study found that in the home care setting, both the objective and subjective oral health scores were higher compared to the nursing home setting, and home care recipients were more likely to have poor oral health than nursing home residents. No significant associations with sociodemographic characteristics were found in relation to oral health.

Summary: Hospital transfer rates among nursing home residents decline with age in a nonlinear fashion. Factors associated with increased risk of transfers include prior diagnoses of hip fracture, dialysis, urinary tract infection, pneumonia, daily pain, anaemia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Transfer rates are lower in residents who prefer comfort care.

Summary: The study found that the use of psychotropic polypharmacy is common among nursing home residents with dementia, with one-third receiving two or more medications concurrently, and one-eighth receiving three or more medications. Factors such as geographic region, sample size, or study year have little impact on the prevalence of psychotropic polypharmacy, with only male gender being associated with a higher use of two or more psychotropic medications concurrently.

Summary: During the COVID-19 pandemic, individuals with psychiatric diagnoses were found to have a higher excess mortality rate, largely due to higher infection rates. Policy interventions should focus on preventing COVID-19 infections and deaths among community-dwelling patients with major psychiatric disorders as well as those living in nursing homes.
