Summary: Antimicrobial resistance poses a serious challenge to healthcare systems and has garnered increasing policy attention and funding for research and development. However, manufacturers are uncertain about the market demand for new antimicrobial technologies. Health technology assessment (HTA) needs to address deficiencies in appraising antimicrobial agents by adopting a problem-centric approach, developing tools for changing infection patterns, and incorporating epidemiological risks in their evaluation criteria. To be more effective, HTA agencies should expand their methodological toolkit, communicate their analysis to a wider audience, and consider both immediate health gains and long-term policy goals.

Adapting Protocols or Models for Use in Insulin-Requiring Diabetes and Islet Transplant Recipients

Summary: The authors discuss modifications made to glucose challenge protocols and mathematical models in order to estimate insulin secretion, insulin sensitivity, and glucose effectiveness in patients with Insulin-Requiring Diabetes and those who received Pancreatic Islet Transplants for Type I diabetes. The evolution of protocols and models for use in Type I Diabetes and Insulin-Requiring Type 2 Diabetes that were the basis for studies in Islet Recipients is outlined. The ongoing application of adaptations is helping to clarify Islet pathophysiology in Islet Transplant Recipients.

Summary: The advertising industry has both negative and positive impacts on climate change. It can contribute to climate change through promoting unsustainable economic growth, climate-harmful consumerism, and greenwashing. However, it can also fight climate change by reducing its carbon footprint, combating greenwashing, and breaking ties with polluting clients and industries. Green advertising has the potential to shift consumers towards a low-carbon culture by providing accurate information and leveraging psychological processes.

Further research may identify new opportunities in therapy and regeneration by focusing on HIF signaling and its potential overlap in these diseases.

A Real-World, Observational Study of the Initiation, Use, and Effectiveness of Basal-Bolus or Premixed Insulin in Japanese People with Type 2 Diabetes

Summary: This study describes the characteristics of patients initiating basal-bolus and premixed insulin regimens in routine clinical practice in Japan, and identifies the course and outcomes of therapy in the year following initiation. Results show that greater HbA1c reductions were reported with basal-bolus regimens compared to premixed regimens, but with a higher incidence of hypoglycemia. Additionally, most premixed regimens remained unchanged, while many patients on basal-bolus regimens switched to less intensive regimens.

Associations of nickel exposure with diabetes: evidence from observational studies

Association of metformin use with fracture risk in type 2 diabetes: A systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies

Further research is needed to make a definite conclusion due to the limited number of existing studies, providing clinical consensus with more evidence.

Metformin Use Is Associated with Decreased Mortality in COVID-19 Patients with Diabetes: Evidence from Retrospective Studies and Biological Mechanism

Association between folic acid use during pregnancy and gestational diabetes mellitus: Two population-based Nordic cohort studies

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the association between folic acid use during pregnancy and risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in two population-based Nordic cohorts. The results showed that self-reported folic acid use had slightly higher or lower odds for GDM in Norway and Sweden respectively, which are not clinically significant. However, prescribed folic acid use had higher odds for GDM, likely due to the specific comorbidities and co-medications of the women using it. Therefore, the recommendations for folic acid use in pregnancy should remain unchanged.
