Summary: This study utilized machine learning models to predict the subsequent publication of abstracts presented at the North American Spine Society annual general meetings. The best performing model during training was partial least squares with an AUC of 0.77±0.05 and an accuracy of 75.5%±4.7%, while the best performing model during testing was random forest with an AUC of 0.69 and an accuracy of 67%.

Summary: This study examines the gender differences in first authorship and characteristics in the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) Annual Meeting abstracts and resulting manuscript publications. It found that a minority of abstracts and publications had female first authors, and abstracts with female first authors took longer to achieve manuscript publication. Moreover, a significant proportion of female first author abstracts resulted in male first author publications.

Summary: This study assessed the greenhouse gas emissions associated with in-person and virtual meetings of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and identified strategies to reduce future emissions. The 2019 in-person meeting had substantially higher emissions compared to the 2020 virtual meeting. Changing meeting locations and formats could lead to significant reductions in transportation-related emissions.

Summary: This study examined the publication rate and reasons for non-publication of abstracts presented at the Australian Orthopaedic Association Annual Scientific Meeting (AOA ASM) between 2012 and 2015. The overall publication rate was found to be 51%, higher than many similar Australian meetings and on par with other international orthopaedic and subspecialty meetings. Common reasons for non-publication included lack of time, publication considered low priority, and journal rejections.
