Summary: This article systematically reviews fMRI studies of the neural effects of intranasal oxytocin (IN-OXT) administration in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The results indicate that IN-OXT alters brain activation in individuals with ASD, but its implications for alleviating their social deficits remain uncertain.

Summary: This study investigated emotional and cognitive empathy in autistic individuals using the Multifaceted Empathy Test for juveniles, revealing impairments in cognitive empathy and subtle differences in emotional empathy characterized by less distinction between positive and negative emotions in autism. The findings suggest that reduced emotional differentiation between positive and negative affect in others may be a mechanism for diminished social reciprocity in autism, posing a universal challenge for individuals with autism.

Summary: This study examines the impact of Theory of Mind on cognitive biases in investors, finding that in individuals with high scores on the social-cognitive ToM dimension, good ToM function can successfully help reduce the disposition effect. This suggests that leveraging cognitive talent in one domain can alleviate deficiencies in other cognitive areas.

Summary: This study investigated the neural correlates of Theory of Mind (ToM) in children with ASD and ADHD, finding that ASD children showed atypical activation in ToM brain areas compared to typically developing children. Additionally, NDD children exhibited shared atypical activation in multiple brain regions in the social help vs. social threat condition, with differences between diagnoses only observed in the right fusiform.

Summary: This paper evaluates the use of nonpharmacological interventions for the management of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), specifically acupuncture and behavioural therapy. The meta-analysis found that behavioural therapies, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, the Denver model, and social skills training, significantly improved social functioning in ASD patients. Acupuncture, including scalp acupuncture, body acupuncture, and modern acupuncture technology, also showed positive effects on social functioning, although the evidence was of lower quality. More high-quality research is needed to confirm the effectiveness of acupoint catgut embedding and Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention (EIBI).

Summary: This study examined the role of IQ and Theory of Mind understanding in children with autism spectrum disorder and Down syndrome. The findings showed that individuals with autism spectrum disorder performed better on first-order Theory of Mind tasks compared to children with Down syndrome. However, there were no significant differences between the two groups on second-order tasks, and children with autism spectrum disorder had significantly better scores on third-order tasks compared to children with Down syndrome.

Summary: In 2016 and 2018, a new syndrome called Chung-Jansen syndrome caused by haploinsufficiency of PHIP was described. This syndrome is characterized by developmental delay, learning difficulties/intellectual disability, behavioral abnormalities, facial dysmorphism and obesity. The identification of distinct types of PHIP alterations using omics technologies has expanded the mutational and clinical spectrum of CHUJANS.

Summary: Asperger syndrome is a pervasive developmental disorder characterized by impaired socialization, stereotypical behavior, and defective social adaptation. Genetic background is important in the development of Asperger syndrome, and a mutation in the RADX gene may play a role as a predisposing factor. The RADX gene encodes a DNA binding factor involved in genome maintenance and its mutation could disrupt neural genes related to cell adhesion and migration.
