Summary: Meis1 and Meis2, through genetic ablation in the developing optic cup, maintain the retinal progenitor pool while suppressing the expression of CMZ and OD fates. Meis transcription factors bind regulatory regions of RPC, CMZ, and OD-specific genes, providing insight into the Meis-dependent gene regulatory network. Meis1 and Meis2 play an essential role as regulators of cell fate competence, organizing spatial territories in the vertebrate eye.

Summary: D-type cyclins encode G1/S cell cycle checkpoint proteins, which are crucial for determining cell cycle exit and progression. Proper control of cell cycle exit is essential during embryonic development, and defects in the regulation of intracellular D-type cyclins can lead to abnormal initiation of stem cell differentiation in various organ systems. Additionally, abnormal stabilization of D-type cyclins is observed in diseases characterized by excessive cell proliferation, such as cancer and overgrowth disorders. In this review, we will summarize and compare the roles of each D-type cyclin in development and provide examples of how their dysregulation can contribute to disease.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the molecular mechanism of KYN's antiproliferative activity on human epidermal melanocytes. The results showed that KYN significantly inhibited the metabolic activity of HEMa cells by decreasing the levels of cyclin D1 and cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4) through the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) pathway. These findings suggest that KYN might play a role in regulating physiological and pathological processes mediated by melanocytes.

Summary: Adult mammals have limited cardiac regeneration potential after injury, while neonatal mouse hearts can completely regenerate within 7 days of birth. This study demonstrated the critical role of mitogen-activated protein kinase-interacting serine/threonine-protein kinase 2 (MNK2) in cardiac regeneration, promoting cardiomyocyte proliferation through activation of the eIF4E-cyclin D1 axis.
