Summary: The MCM-48/ZnFe2O4/BiOBr (MZBB) heterojunction photocatalyst was used to decompose rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light. The compound semiconductor degraded RhB by 99.03% after 60 min at a concentration of 40 mg/L and pH 6.0, with a total organic carbon (TOC) mineralization rate of 0.0631. The combination of n-type ZnFe2O4 and BiOBr improved the photocatalytic performance of the MCM-48/ZnFe2O4/ BiOBr composite, and the presence of n-n junctions promoted the separation of photogenerated carriers and prolonged recombination time.

Summary: In this study, a 2D/2D TiO2-GO-ZnFe2O4 composite photocatalyst was synthesized using the fluorine-free lyophilization technique and its potential for ibuprofen degradation was investigated. The composite showed enhanced degradation of ibuprofen under simulated solar light and possessed superparamagnetic properties for easy separation. The photodegradation process resulted in the formation of non-toxic intermediates, while photolysis led to the generation of more toxic by-products. Superoxide radicals and singlet oxygen were found to play significant roles in the ibuprofen photodegradation process based on the degradation analysis and electron spin resonance analysis.

Summary: Bi0/BiVO4 was synthesized using ascorbic acid, and its microstructure, morphology, optical properties and photogenerated carriers separation behavior were investigated. The photocatalytic degradation of RhB by Bi0/BiVO4 under visible light irradiation was studied, showing that the photocatalytic performance of Bi0/BiVO4 is significantly improved compared to BiVO4. This enhancement is mainly attributed to the surface plasmon resonance effect of Bi0 deposited on the surface of BiVO4, which expands the light response range and accelerates the separation of photogenerated carriers. This study provides valuable insights for the preparation of excellent catalysts.

Summary: Gold(II) complexes have been less utilized in catalysis compared to their gold(I) and gold(III) counterparts. However, gold(II) complexes offer potential in homo-coupling and cross-coupling reactions, as they are more easily accessible through simplified oxidation and reduction processes. Gold(II) exhibits characteristics of both soft acid gold(I) and hard acid gold(III). This review explores the unique reactivity and potential applications of gold(II) species, highlighting their significance in catalytic transformations.

Summary: A new aryl selenonium polyoxometalate hybrid was developed and compared with an aryl sulfonium polyoxometalate hybrid in terms of their photocatalytic properties. It was found that the aryl selenonium hybrid exhibited better catalytic performance, which could be attributed to the larger atomic radii of selenium stabilizing the photogenerated electron-hole pair more efficiently. Additionally, the generation of elemental selenium through cleavage of C-Se bonds during catalysis was observed.
