Summary: By exploring a method for the functionalization of BTZD scaffold, we have opened up a new chemical space around BTZD. Key intermediates, 6-chloro- and 6-formyl BTZD, were obtained and used in Pd catalyzed cross-coupling or Wittig olefination reactions. Various substituents were successfully introduced onto the vinylic position of BTZD, and the stereochemistry of benzylidene derivatives was elucidated through a combined DFT/NMR study.

Summary: A mono-substituted Au(I) carbene was synthesized by reacting HC(N-2)(Dmp) (Dmp = 2,6-dimesitylphenyl) with an (o-carboranyl)-diphosphine AuNTf2 complex. It exhibited stability up to about 10 degrees C and its structure was determined using NMR spectroscopy. Density functional theory calculations revealed that the chelating P<^>P ligand enhanced Au -> C-carb backdonation, while the Dmp substituent provided kinetic stabilization without altering the electronic structure of the carbene complex.

Summary: This study synthesized and characterized eleven manganese 4'-substituted-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine complexes with different substituents. In vitro experiments showed that these complexes exhibited higher antiproliferative activities against human carcinoma cell lines compared to cisplatin. Compound 2d demonstrated the strongest antiproliferative effect on A549 and HeLa cells, while compounds 2h, 2g, and 2c were most effective against Bel-7402, Eca-109, and MCF-7 cells, respectively. The DNA binding ability of these complexes was investigated using circular dichroism spectroscopy and molecular modeling methods, revealing the involvement of pi-pi stacking and hydrogen bonds. The anticancer activity was enhanced by modifying oxygen-containing substituents.

Summary: This article investigates the efficiency of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in detecting heavy metal ions such as Pb2+, Hg2+, and Cd2+. By optimizing conditions, MOFs composite materials and membranes can achieve ultra-sensitive detection of Pb2+ ions (LOD in pmol/L), which is their main advantage. However, the low working potential of MOFs requires the development of MOFs membrane composite materials for highly efficient detection of toxic Pb2+ ions. Therefore, this review summarizes their advantages, limitations, and future directions.

Summary: A new aryl selenonium polyoxometalate hybrid was developed and compared with an aryl sulfonium polyoxometalate hybrid in terms of their photocatalytic properties. It was found that the aryl selenonium hybrid exhibited better catalytic performance, which could be attributed to the larger atomic radii of selenium stabilizing the photogenerated electron-hole pair more efficiently. Additionally, the generation of elemental selenium through cleavage of C-Se bonds during catalysis was observed.
