Summary: The reactivities of o-carborane-fused silylenes towards molecules with CE (E = C, P) bonds were studied. Reactions of [(LSi:)C]2B10H10 (1a) with arylalkynes resulted in the formation of bis(silylium) carborane adducts 2 and 3. On the other hand, the reaction of 1a with a phosphaalkyne AdCP led to the synthesis of compound 4, featuring fused CPSi rings with a C=Si double bond and Si-Si single bond. Furthermore, the reaction of monosilylene 1b with AdCP yielded compound 5, containing a 1,2,3-triphosphetene core. The structures of the products were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and/or X-ray crystallography.

Summary: 4-Aryl-5-allyl-N-fluoroalkyl-1,2,3-triazoles were synthesized through a three-component reaction of fluoroalkyl azides, copper acetylides, and allyl halides. These compounds underwent aluminum halide-mediated transformation to N-(4-halo-2-aryl-cyclopentenyl) imidoyl halides by cyclization of vinyl cation intermediates, followed by halide capture. The cyclic products could be further utilized for the synthesis of N-alkenyl amides, amidines, isoquinolines, and tetrazoles, or for the subsequent modification of the cyclopentene ring.

Summary: This study presents the tandem intramolecular hydroarylation of alkynes accompanied by a 1,2-aryl shift. By utilizing the unique electron-rich character of the 1,4-dihydropyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole scaffold, pi-expanded, centrosymmetric pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrroles were synthesized by reacting alkynes at the already occupied positions 2 and 5. The reaction only proceeds in the presence of cationic gold catalyst and produces unknown compounds with six conjugated rings. These synthesized compounds have potential applications in the creation of new materials with various functionalities.

Summary: In this study, an efficient metal-free chemodivergent protocol for the synthesis of 1-substituted 9H-pyrrolo[1,2-a]indole derivatives was reported. By fine-tuning the catalyst and solvent system, trifluoromethyl, trifluoroethylcarboxylate, or carboxylic acid substituents can be introduced on the C1-position of these derivatives. The solvent and catalyst interaction were found to be crucial for the catalytic C-F activation in these transformations.

While other ortho-substituents gave 1,2-oxazinanes, ortho-hydroxy compounds provided a novel class of tetrahydrochromeno-1,2-oxazine cores through rare 1,3-aryl migration followed by cyclization. Summary: We have developed an iridium(III)-catalyzed C-H alkynylation reaction of 2-acylimidazoles with alkynyl bromides, which efficiently constructs both C(sp)-C(sp(2)) and C(sp)-C(sp(3)) bonds. The mechanism of this reaction was extensively studied using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The calculated catalytic cycle starts with C-H activation, followed by a strain-controlled selectivity migratory insertion of an alkynyl bromide into the formed iridacycle. The resulting alpha-bromovinyl iridium species undergoes a rapid conversion into a more stable iridium vinylidene intermediate through a 1,2-bromine migration, and the adjacent silyl group migrates to give the C-H alkynylated product. The unique reactivity difference with respect to the substituent on the alkynyl bromide occurs during the 1,2-migration step, where a silyl group can highly stabilize the transition state through the beta-silicon effect.

Summary: Zwitterionic triarylmethylium dyes 1 and 2 with varied molecular assembly and charge transfer transition were synthesized using a tetraarylborate unit. These dyes exhibited solvatochromism and mechanochromism, allowing the color of the solid state to change upon dissolution & evaporation or grinding. Different crystal forms obtained from different recrystallization conditions independently reproduced the three colors, which were correlated with solid-state structures as demonstrated by diffuse reflectance measurement and powder X-ray diffraction. The unique color change of these dyes is suggested to originate from alterations in intermolecular interactions.
