Summary: This article introduces a new series of bimetallic platinum-(II) complexes with NHC-type bridging ligands, which exhibit cytotoxicity, cell accumulation, and DNA binding properties in cancerous cells. These complexes demonstrate significant radiosensitizing effects by inhibiting DNA repair mechanisms, leading to persistent accumulation of irradiation-induced DNA damages. This study provides the first in vitro evidence for the radiosensitizing properties of NHC-platinum complexes, suggesting their potential use in combined chemo-radiotherapy protocols.

Summary: Abnormal N-heterocyclic carbene (aNHC) based Ni(II) pi-allyl complexes (3 and 4) were synthesized from a Ni(0) precursor and characterized. The mechanism for the formation of Ni(II) eta(3)-allyl complexes from a Ni(0) precursor using a free abnormal N-heterocyclic carbene was elucidated. Exposure of complex 3 to O-2 gas under ambient pressure resulted in the activation of molecular oxygen to form a mu-hydroxo bridged Ni(II) dimer.

Summary: Newly synthesized palladium allyl complexes exhibit lower antiproliferative activity, with similar anticancer activity in two ovarian cancer cell lines, suggesting a different mechanism of action compared to platinum-based anticancer drugs. Some compounds show lower cytotoxicity on normal cells and higher selectivity towards cancer cells. Comparing the IC50 values of NHC/PTA complexes and their trifluoromethyl congeners indicates similar antiproliferative activity against cancer cells, but the absence of the CF3 group decreases selectivity towards them.

Summary: This study presents a theoretical evaluation of the electronic and steric properties of various N-Heterocyclic boryl (NHB) ligands using NHB-Ir(CO)(3) as the model complex. The results reveal the influence of substitution, backbone saturation, ring size, and heteroatoms on the NHB properties. The findings suggest that these scales are crucial for the design, application, and mechanistic understanding of NHB-based complexes or molecules.

Summary: The concept of atropisomeric N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-metal complexes with C-2-symmetry was extended to palladium-based complexes. Through a comprehensive study of NHC precursors and screening of various NHC ligands, the formation of meso complexes was successfully circumvented. Eight atropisomeric NHC-palladium complexes were prepared and obtained with high enantiopurities through efficient chiral HPLC resolution. These complexes demonstrated good activity in the intramolecular alpha-arylation of amides, leading to the isolation of cyclic products with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 98% ee).

Summary: The synthesis and characterization of Nickel(II) complexes with novel pincer-type N-heterocyclic carbene complexes were investigated. The complexes showed high activity as catalysts for the coupling reactions of aryl and alkyl halides. By adjusting the steric hindrance of the ligand, better catalytic performance could be achieved. Under the experimental conditions, a catalyst loading as low as 5 mol% could yield high-productivity products.

Summary: This study describes a novel method for preparing tetrahydropentaleno[1,2-c]pyrroles (8) through the reaction of anilines with 1-en-4-yn-3-ols in the presence of Lewis acid. The oxidation of 8 using Br2 resulted in the formation of pentaleno[1,2-c]pyrroles (10), representing the first tricyclic 5/5/5 ring with a fully conjugated system. The structures of the obtained compounds were characterized using spectroscopic methods, with compounds 8a,b and 10c further confirmed by X-ray crystallography.

Summary: The palladium-promoted vinylation of cyclohexenes using a directing group strategy resulted in coupled vinyl cyclohexenes with excellent regio- and stereoselectivity. Reaction of 2-(cyclohex-2-en-1-yl)-N-tosylacetamide (1a) with (Z)-styryl bromides (2) produced cis-2-[(E)-styryl]cyclopent-3-en-1-yl-N-tosylacetamides in good to excellent yields, with the (Z)-styryl moiety inverted into (E)-form in the products. However, (E)-styryl bromide substrates were not suitable for this reaction. Further studies on norbornene system showed that the palladium-catalyzed reaction of endo-N-tosylbicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-2-carboxamide (6) with styryl bromides resulted in Aza-Heck type products.

Summary: A new aryl selenonium polyoxometalate hybrid was developed and compared with an aryl sulfonium polyoxometalate hybrid in terms of their photocatalytic properties. It was found that the aryl selenonium hybrid exhibited better catalytic performance, which could be attributed to the larger atomic radii of selenium stabilizing the photogenerated electron-hole pair more efficiently. Additionally, the generation of elemental selenium through cleavage of C-Se bonds during catalysis was observed.
