Summary: This tutorial review discusses the translation from batch-mode ball-milling to flow-mode reactive extrusion using twin-screw extrusion. Mechanochemistry has been established as a powerful approach in sustainable organic synthesis, mainly due to the opportunities offered in solvent-free or highly solvent-minimized reaction systems. However, limitations in scale-up still exist.

Summary: o-Iodoxybenzoic acid (IBX) and Dess-Martinperiodinane (DMP) are effective in converting thiol to thiosulfonate at room temperature. DMP shows superior reaction rate, conversion, and equivalents compared to IBX. IBX oxidation of benzyl thiols results in thiosulfonates, while DMP produces O-benzylesters. The one-pot conversion of a thiol to an ester is unprecedented and holds potential for functional group transformations.

Summary: The synthesis and crystallographic characterization of NO2-C6H4-I(NTf2)(2) (NTf2 = bistriflimide) are reported. Experimental results demonstrate that this compound is capable of performing oxidation reactions that ArI(OTf)2 is unable to. Theoretical analysis indicates that Ar-I(NTf2)(2) is the most oxidizing compound among the known ArIL2 class of compounds, and it may also be the most oxidizing compound among the practically possible compounds in this class.

Summary: The study demonstrates that iodosobenzene can serve as a convenient and controlled precursor of the oxidant hypobromite under the right conditions. Water acts as a cocatalyst in the generation of hypobromite, which is shown to be a more powerful oxidant than iodosobenzene in alcohol oxidation. The findings provide a clear rationale for the experimental observations on the effectiveness of halide additives in the oxidation process.

Summary: A new oxyalkynylation/cycloaddition reaction has been reported to synthesize complex polycyclic structures under mild conditions, with high efficiency and atom economy. The obtained products can be applied as chiral ligands for metal catalysis, providing a new method for organic synthesis. Computational studies provided a first rationalization of the low activation energy for the cycloaddition reaction based on counter-intuitive favorable dispersive interactions in the transition state.

Summary: Inflammaging refers to chronic low-grade inflammation caused by immune and non-immune cells stimulated by endogenous/self, misplaced or altered molecules, belonging to physiological aging. This inflammatory status is characterized by increased inflammation and decreased autophagy, and predisposes to age-related diseases. Phenolic compounds, particularly hydroxytyrosol (HTyr) found in extra-virgin olive oil, have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may counteract inflammaging and contribute to healthy aging.
